Sridevi was one of the most prolific actresses of her time. After working in some of the blockbuster films of her time, she took a substantial break from her acting career to be with her kids. Afterwards, she yet again made a comeback with the film, English Vinglish, which is referred to as one of the most loved cinemas of all time. However, now we got to know that Sridevi wasn't the first choice for the film as revealed by her husband, Boney Kapoor.
In a recent conversation with Zoom TV, Boney Kapoor talked about Sridevi starrer film, English Vinglish and made a startling revelation. He shared that initially, his wife wasn't selected for the Hindi version of the film. Instead, it was Aishwarya Rai, who was thought for the plot. Going further in the same conversation, Boney revealed how he convinced the film-makers that Sridevi was better suited for the role, and Aishwarya, already a Miss India by then, may not have been that convincing. In Boney's words:

“English Vinglish first was planned, Gauri was supposed to do it with Aishwarya Rai and Balki wanted to do it with Sri in South Indian languages. I pursued him ki ‘Why do you want to do only regional language with her?’ There couldn’t be anybody better to do the Hindi version too. She will be more convincing as a person who can’t speak English. She’s (Aishwarya) been Miss India. I mean, I don’t know if this should be there or not. I feel she’s (Sridevi) is far more suited than anybody else.”

While one social media user wrote, "The movie was saved, no one can beat Sridevi's performance. She made me her fan and I've never watched her prior movies before", another mentioned, "English Vinglish is one of my all time favorites. It's such a daring project. Every choice had courage in it. The off best cast and everything. Nobody, not Deepika, Kareena or Priyanka have done a movie entirely on their own shoulders, a feat Sridevi has achieved."

He mentioned how she was more spiritual than him, and only because of her, he started believing in the same. The filmmaker shared how the late actress performed some unusual roles while walking on the path of spiritualism. Citing an example, Boney mentioned that Sridevi lit a fire on the pyre after her mom passed away. Boney said:

For the unversed, before tying the knot with Sridevi, Boney was earlier married to Mona Shourie, and they were parents to two kids, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. Thus, in the same interview, Boney also quipped about Sridevi's equation with his first wife, Mona. Talking about the same, Boney added that he often feels guilty, but he has been very honest with Mona. Thus, he mentioned how Mona was well aware of his feelings for Sridevi, and ahead of his wedding with the actress, she used to stay in the same house as his first wife.
