Things to do before and while applying mehendi
- Get proper sleep and eat something before applying the mehendi.
- Book your mehendi artist weeks before the ceremony. And, before finalising your mehendi designer, do look at their design samples. It will give you a clear idea of their designs patterns and design clarity. Also, if you have a specific design in your mind and want the same on your hands and feet, then give its copy to your artist beforehand.
- For best results, try to make the fresh henna paste at your home, or ask your mehendi artist to do so. Also, make sure your mehendi artist uses good quality henna; otherwise, you will not get the desired results.

- Before applying mehendi, do wash your hands and feet with soap and dry them properly. Any cream or oil on your skin will act as a barrier, and minimise the mehendi absorption into your skin.
- Ask your mehendi artist whether they need the old piece of cloths, newspapers or any other things before they start applying henna. Collect those things first, and then sit for the application. This way, the designer will not get disturbed in between and will be able to make the design perfectly.
- Sit in a place where there is proper light and less hustle-bustle.
- Do wear something comfortable as you will have to sit and wait for hours for the mehendi application to be completed.

- Avoid drinking too much liquid just before or while applying mehendi.
- Do not sit in the sun while the mehendi is being applied.

- Do not blow-dry your mehendi under any circumstances. This may smudge your design and ruin it.
- Do not shave or wax your arms and legs after applying mehendi. It will scrape off the upper layer of your skin, and the mehendi design will look faded. To ensure that you do not need any beauty treatment like manicure, pedicure and waxing done after the mehendi has been applied, get these things done just three to four days before the ceremony.
Things to do for long-lasting and dark mehendi
- To get the best results, it is suggested to apply mehendi at least 24 to 48 hours before it.
- Keep the mehendi on your hand for a minimum of seven to eight hours and a maximum of 12 hours.
- You can take ‘clove steam’ to get that rich and dark colour. All you have to do is to warm a few cloves in a pan and run your hands over the smoke. But remember, as soon as the steam starts hurting, just pull your hands back.
- After your mehendi dries a bit, dab a mixture of lemon juice and sugar on it with a cotton ball a few times. You can also spread some powdered sugar on the lemon, and directly apply it to the mehendi.
