Having a baby is a blessing for every couple. He is their own little bundle of joy, who changes the meaning of their existence within seconds of his arrival. And, even though the task of looking after and bringing up a baby can be a pretty demanding, straining and daunting job, you do need to make a conscious effort to take some time out for your partner in order to keep the romance alive.

But, what do you do when you are unable to do that, as your baby demands your complete attention all the time? Well, why not make your baby a part of your romantic moments as well? By doing that, you will not worry about the baby and will be able to spend quality time with your spouse. So, here are some awesome ways to do just that!

#1. Accept that now you are not two but three

First and foremost, you need to make peace with the fact that your days of freedom, the extended honeymoon phase, late night clubbing and all of that are over; well, at least for a few years. So accept that gracefully, and welcome this new phase of your life with open arms.

#2. Make the best out of your baby’s nap-time

You will soon be aware of your baby’s sleep pattern. So as soon as he/she sleeps, use that time to either cuddle up in the next room, go out for a nice movie while your parents look after the child or if you feel he will continue to sleep, then take him along.

#3. Do not keep your expectations too high

You might end up having a great time or you might not. Don’t expect too much and don’t compare your time to that which you used to have before the baby came. A low expectation equals a happy marriage!

#4. Go to a place where there is something in store for all three of you

Go to a kids play area, which has a coffee shop next to it so that till your child plays, you can have a quick coffee date. Go for a walk in the park with your house-help. Take a few rounds together, talk about your day, your future etc. while your child plays under the watchful eyes of the house-help.

#5. Get a good nanny

A nanny who likes to be with children, has a cheerful and smiling face and one that your child also likes. Once the child gets a little familiar with the nanny, you can take her and your child along everywhere you go. This way you do not feel confined to the house or dependent on your parents anymore to leave the child with them.

#6. Look for happiness in small things

Watching a movie at home, cuddling each other while your baby plays on the floor mat, cooking a meal together while hearing the naughty giggles of your child, maybe cleaning up the house a little (considering the state of it with a small child in it) and many more such things. Be happy with the small pleasures of life, appreciate what you have and always show gratitude for it!

#7. Have fun in the house

Plan a special menu and have a romantic in-home dinner, include your child in setting up the table and stuff, call his/ her cousins over and have a backyard party, give your dog a bath together and get all wet yourself while having fun with the water. There are so many things that you can enjoy at home, so many moments that unintentionally become the most special and romantic ones. You just need to be receptive to catch them!

#8. Use your weekends

Do not be scared to travel with a small kid. You have to try out things for you to get used to them. An experience, good or bad, always has something to teach. So pack your bags and take small weekend trips. And when the baby gets tired of the travelling and goes to sleep, you two know just how to utilise that time. Plus, a new place, a good hotel and a change in weather are natural mood energisers too!

#9. Keep the spark alive through small meaningful gestures

When you see your partner tired and stressed out, taking care of the kid and there is not much you can do to help as you are running late for work, send her a text telling her how awesome she is, how well she manages everything and how much you love her. Appreciate her cooking even if she serves you toast and tea for dinner. And if he does all that, then ladies, it’s time for you to show some gratitude as well.

#10. Try to identify your child’s area of interest and use it to your advantage

Say your child likes to paint or dance, why not enroll him/her in a class that channels their interest in the right direction to nurture it, while the two of you get that time to yourself to join another class, or do something else while you are already out!

Okay, so not only do you get to spend quality time with your family over the vacation, but because your child is close to them as well and wants to be with his grandparents, you two get a break to enjoy your holiday, while the grandparents enjoy the company of their beloved grandchild. More like two strikes with a single arrow, we would call it!

Including your little one in your romantic plans is much better than not having any plans at all. In addition, romance does not always mean making love.
