Many people tend to ignore this aspect while looking for a wedding venue. An Indian wedding is quite a magnificent affair and includes a lot of people. So, make sure that you look for a secure setting that can easily accommodate and manage so many people without any issue. Anuj Soin, event manager at Courtyard by Marriott, says, “Safeguarding life’s special moments is as vital as the ceremony itself. Families should think of hiring special security or keep in mind the fire norms. The wedding venue should have got approval from the relevant authorities to conduct large events. And, it should have the necessary fire precautions and health and safety provisions in place. All the rooms and halls where the ceremonies will take place, should have been assessed for fire risk.”

#2. Backup plan

This is another apsect that a lot of couples do not think about when they select their wedding venue. Well, your wedding is the most important day of your life, and you surely would not want the arrangements to be messed up at the last moment because of bad weather. Neha Gupta, who got married in February this year, says, “My wedding venue was a farmhouse, which was very beautifully decorated. But, just before the wedding, rain spoiled it all. The closed area of the farmhouse did not have enough space to accommodate all the guests, and it was not even decorated. Snacks placed outside also got spoiled. Unexpected rain turned my beautiful dream wedding into an absolutely plain wedding.” So, to make sure that something like this does not happen to you, check with your wedding venue vendor about the backup plan in case of bad weather or any other unforeseen circumstances.

#3. Accessibility

The wedding venue should be easily accessible so that you and your guests can reach the venue on time. Try to look for a location, which can even be spotted on Google maps to get the directions. Also, try to avoid all those locations, which usually have high traffic volume. In fact, make sure you ask the wedding venue vendor about the shortest and traffic-free route to reach the venue. And, once you finalise the venue, do not forget to get the same route printed at the back of your invitation card for the ease of your guests.

There are a lot of things that you might not even think of while finalising your wedding venue, but can prove to be really troublesome on your special day. So, do not forget to check about various things, like washrooms, parking space, heating or air conditioning facility, lighting, etc., before taking a decision. Shivani Bhatia, who recently got married, says, “My wedding was really beautiful, but one of my aunts faced a problem. She has a knee problem, which makes it difficult for her to climb stairs. And, on my wedding day, the venue’s lift was not working. So, she had a tough time and I really felt bad for her.” Taking a lesson from Shivani’s experience, you must keep in mind the special needs of your guests, and finalise the venue accordingly.

Popular venues, especially the ones in metro cities, tend to get booked a year in advance. However, different wedding venues have different procedures for booking. Some wedding venues might ask for the booking to be made two months or so in advance, and some may immediately book the venue. And of course, it depends upon the availability as well. So, if you already have a dream venue in your mind, then make sure you check its booking plan as soon as your wedding date is finalised. This will help you to check if it is available for the same date. And, if it fulfils all your requirements as well as the above mentioned things, then book it without any further delay.
