“We thus pronounce you man and wife” and there you are a happily married couple. It means the highest level of commitment in a relationship, where you feel that living with this person legally is the best thing to happen to you. There are new aspects to your life like waking up to your partner’s snores. You learn new things about your partner that you would otherwise be oblivious to. What changes with all this is the way you socialise now. It is not your life alone, but intertwined life of you and your partner. Now the decisions are mutual and should be respected that way. No more is the dialogue “it’s my life” going to help you. So how do couples socialise? How different does a couple’s way of socialising become?

Socialising Group: A Mutual Choice
Your partner may or may not be comfortable with a certain group of people. You need to keep that in mind while considering socialising as a couple. You need to plan out a solution with mutual consent, to keep life going good for both of you.

Planning Socialising
You are married, and now the responsibilities have increased. The period of courtship is always different from that of marriage. In marriage, your schedules, needs and behaviour etc. should be in sync with your partner. You need to plan your socialising beforehand taking into account all of this, so that you do not mess up things.

They are my best buddies, and I have a lot of catching up to do! In this process, somewhere we forget or take for granted the boredom, our partner would be going through. The rule to a couple’s way of socialising means including your partner in the conversation.

I am there for you
Non verbal gestures help in communicating that you are there for your partner. Make sure that you keep a hand on him/her. You can always pull them closer while conversing. (Remember- Do not go overboard with the public display of affection)

This helps your partner get comfortable and your group of friends also feel that he/she should be involved. If you do not take a step, then people around you will also not bother to do so.

Compromise a bit
You do not feel like attending a particular function, but it is very important for your partner. So, once in a while, you can always let go of your interest and do things for your partner. It is good to compromise at certain places to build a healthy relationship.

At the end we are individuals too
