Uorfi Javed made the entire nation's jaw dropped when she stepped out, donning a metallic-toned breastplate with a partially draped saree. Not many know that the first-ever breastplate was worn by Arjun Rampal's ex-wife, Mehr Jesia in 1991.
For the unversed, breastplate fashion in women has been widely popular in Hollywood. It came to India in 1991, when Indian fashion designer, Suneet Verma first made a breastplate and showcased it on the Indian runways, and caused a stir in the country for which it was extremely new in the '90s. Not many know that Arjun Rampal's first wife, Mehr Jesia was a supermodel in the '90s. It was in 1991, when ace fashion designer, Suneet Verma crafted his first golden metallic bustier, which was styled with a saree combination for the first time. The design was a tribute to his favourite painting, 'The Birth Of Venus' by Italian artist Sandro Botticelli. His first bustier was worn by Mehr Jesia for shows in Mumbai and Delhi. She looked way ahead of her time in the gorgeous metallic breastplate.

Not only Mehr, Shaymoli Verma, who is known as the first supermodel and the first Lakme girl, also wore Suneet Verma's breastplate. Her look had a feminine touch to it as she donned a relaxed printed saree and the pallu covered her head. Her look was styled with statement earrings.
Sonam Kapoor is hailed as the fashionista of Bollywood. Years later, Suneet Verma also styled Sonma Kapoor in one of his breastplates for a photoshoot. And oh boy, she looked stunning. Sonam donned a plunging metallic bustier with bold arm accessories and a quirky neckpiece. Subtle makeup and hair left open completed her look.
Indian model, Alesia Raut also wore a similar breastplate from Suneet Verma's collection. We loved how she styled it with a pastel pink saree casually draped over her shoulders. She kept her look minimal with highlighted cheeks, glossy lips and hair tied in a high ponytail.
Suneet Verma again showcased his breastplate collection in 2022's Indian Bridal Week. We stumbled upon a model, who donned a purple saree with a breastplate. The look was inspired by the Roman era, and it featured a shiny golden breastplate.
Another model flaunted Suneet Verma's breastplate with a twist. She wore the metallic silver plate with a ruched pink skirt and an embellished sheer cape. Her look was a breath of freshness.
Another model wore a similar gold-toned metal breastplate with a saree. She donned a textured white saree with embellishments. Her look was bold and edgy and definitely a hit among the audience.
Uorfi, who is known for DIYing her own outfits, made her own breastplate and flaunted it at an event. While the outfit raised many eyebrows, Uorfi flaunted the look with a saree. She even shared the making of the breastplate.
