In a recent podcast with actress Rhea Chakraborty, Aamir Khan talked about his decision to quit films and his ex-wife, Kiran Rao's reaction to it.
Tagged as Mr. Perfectionist of Bollywood, Aamir Khan is one of the most bankable actors in the industry. Aamir earned his living by doing small roles in films and plays. Before making his acting debut, he worked as an assistant director in films directed by his maternal uncle, Nasir Hussain. It was the film, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988 that made him an overnight sensation, and since then, there has been no looking back for him.
Recently, Aamir Khan appeared on Rhea Chakraborty’s podcast, Chapter 2, in which the actor talked about the various aspects of his life. In one of the segments, Aamir revealed he was ready to quit films to spend more time with his family. Talking about his kids’ surprising reaction, Aamir stated that he expected his kids to ask him multiple questions regarding his decision. But they just nodded and said okay.
The actor then went on to discuss the same with his team and told them about it. The actor made it clear that he was the one who decided to quit, so he told his team to take his company from him and run. In his words:
“I called my team, my production team… which had Kiran [Rao] as well. I said that I do not need this company anymore because I am not going to make films. But you are all in the same profession and want to make films, so I want you to take the company from me and make films.”
In the same conversation, Aamir shared that his production team included his ex-wife, Kiran Rao, who couldn’t hold back her emotions after hearing his decision to quit films. Aamir recalled how Kiran cried and asked him not to take such a big step. In his words:
“Kiran told me, ‘You’re leaving us all.’ I said no I am leaving films and now I will spend more time with you all. Kiran said, ‘No, you do not understand this right now. If you’re quitting films, you are a child of cinema… you are made for cinema and if you are leaving it then you are letting go of life and the world. We are part of that world too so you are leaving us too. She was crying. I said that won’t happen, you are getting it wrong. But she was correct which I didn’t realise it then.”
With movies like Lagaan, Fanaa, Rang De Basanti, Ghajini, 3 Idiots, PK, Dangal and many more, Aamir proved the mettle of his acting.
