Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have been married for more than a decade now. Did you know he had proposed to her with a fake ring, which was a prop from their film, 'Guru'? Details inside!
Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, one of the much-loved couples of Bollywood, have been together for more than a decade now. The power couple had got married in a traditional south-Indian wedding in April 2007, in Mumbai after getting engaged in an intimate ceremony in January 2007. Breaking all the stereotypes, Abhishek Bachchan had married Aishwarya Rai, who is two years elder than him.
Abhishek and Aishwarya's love story is simple yet beautiful! They had met on the sets of Dhai Akshar Prem Ke (when Aishwarya was dating Salman Khan) and later, had worked together in Kuch Naa Kaho. It was during the filming of Dhoom 2 that the two had fallen in love with each other. And during the filming of Mani Ratnam's film, Guru, Abhishek had decided to propose marriage to his lady-love and had planned to go down on his knees. The entire team of Guru was shooting in New York and it was there only that he had popped the question to Aishwarya.

Recalling the romantic and rather filmy proposal by Abhishek, on a freezing night in New York in 2007, he had gone down on his knees with a ring in his hand, in the balcony of their hotel, and had asked Aishwarya for marriage. Though she was surprised and completely swept off her feet, Aishwarya had said ‘Yes’. However, do you know the story behind that ring with which Abhishek had proposed to Aishwarya? It was no solitaire or any expensive ring but a prop from the sets of their film, Guru. Yes, Abhishek had proposed to Aishwarya for marriage with a fake ring in his hand and lots of love in his heart. It was the same ring that he had used in Guru to propose his lady-love in the film.
It was after the premiere of the film, Guru, in Toronto, when Abhishek Bachchan had proposed to Aishwarya Rai in New York, and she had immediately accepted his proposal. Abhishek had shared the details to Oprah Winfrey in the couple's first interview post their wedding. He had said:
"I was filming in New York for a movie. And, I used to stand on the balcony of my hotel room and wish that, 'One day, wouldn't it be nice if I was together with her, married.' Years later, we were there for the premiere of Guru. After the premiere, we were back in the hotel. So, I took her to the very same balcony, and I asked her to marry me."

Talking about the fake ring from Mani Ratnam's film, Guru, Abhishek had asked the producer if he could keep the ring, for sentimental reasons. In a 2010 interview with a magazine, Aishwarya had opened up on the proposal with a fake ring and had shared:
"He is original and real, like our relationship. There is nothing predictable or boring about our life. We nurture each other. The gesture was spontaneous and meaningful. God has been kind to us. We can certainly afford those standard rocks. But do we need them?"
Talking about how Abhishek Bachchan is as a husband, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had once said in an interview with DNA:
“He’s a friend, companion, husband, and a father, but I think the fact that he’s my bestest friend pretty much encapsulates it all. We are a very normal couple. Abhishek and I sometimes joke about being second siblings. We both share and talk a lot about what we are feeling. Sometimes, we have so much to say that we want to be the first to share it. So, I have to say this first: we are both good listeners, but also extremely talkative.”

On November 16, 2011, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had welcomed their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, into the world. Talking about motherhood, in an interview with DNA, Aishwarya had shared:
“Motherhood is the most beautiful fatigue. It’s relaxing. It’s invigorating. Even if you are tired, you would rather spend that time with your child. I have never been the one to talk about the loss of sleep. I have done it all on my own and just kept one girl with me and I will let her eat and sleep and I will do everything. I have never kept a posse of maids and nannies. Even if it’s hard work, it’s my choice. I am not remotely complaining nor am I judging. These are the choices I have made and that’s the life I have been leading.”
Even if the ring with which Abhishek Bachchan had proposed to Aishwarya Rai was fake, their love for each other holds purity. It is evident even after years of their married life and we wish this continues for them forever.
