Being a star kid is similar to a two-edged sword, as it can yield both good and bad outcome for an individual. Especially with the current scenario in our very own Bollywood industry, it seems that people are not able to accept wholeheartedly any star kid who marks their debut, since they feel that the opportunity was given and not made. One such celeb kid has been Abhishek Bachchan, as as time and again, he has been compared with his parents, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.

Abhisekh Bachchan made his debut in Bollywood with his film, Refugee in the year 2000. While the movie was quite succesful at that time, it did little to boost Abhishek's fame as a succesful actor, reach far and wide. Although the actor did put in a lot of his efforts, it seemed that the audience was too busy to compare his career graph with that of his father, the legendary actor, Amitabh Bachchan.

Abhishek has been quite open about the struggles he faced being an actor in an industry, that has already seen the illustrious careers of his legendary parents. From being considered highly unworthy to being marked as an actor without talent, he has faced all these brutal confrontations of the audience. In a recent interview, when Abhishek was asked if he would go back in time to erase all pictures and tangible connections with his father, Amitabh Bachchan and instead enter the industry with a new name and identity, he responded:

“I would never do that, I’ve never felt the need to do that either. For me, the greatest pride comes from the fact that I’m my parents’ son. Professionally as well. I look upon the responsibility of being my parents’ son very differently from how the world perceives it… For me, I look at it as the responsibility to carry forth the family’s legacy… I’ve never looked at it as a burden, or an albatross around my neck. I’ve looked at it as a huge, huge privilege and an honour, and I wake up every morning wanting to do good service to that.”

Further in the interview, Abhishek also opened up about the type of criticism he faced from the journalists as well, who fume in the unnecessary comparisons between his father and himself. But nevertheless, he mentioned that it does not make him hate his surname at all, and instead, he wears it with even more pride. In his words:

"If, after 22 years, you still feel the need to bring up a comparison, then fair enough. My approach is that you’re comparing me to the best, so I’m evidently doing something right.”

While the kind of response from the audience was highly undesirable for the actor himself, it seems that his sister too has not taken it kindly, and has felt angry at it. In her daughter’s very own podcast show, What The Hell Navya, Shweta Bachchan had retorted that it made her blood boil to see people compare her brother Abhishek unfairly with their dad. She had said:

“That’s the only thing that drives me mad. It’s nasty. They attack him all the time, and it’s really upsetting. That really boils my blood, and I don’t care about any of this that is bothering you guys, but this really upsets me. I don’t like it when they do it to him, because you know what? It’s not fair. It really bugs me.”

Abhishek Bachchan is currently seen in the second season of his OTT series, Breathe: Into The Shadows.
