Recently, Abhishek Bachchan opened up about the low phase in his life when he nearly quit showbiz. The actor revealed that it was his dad, Amitabh Bachchan, who motivated him to keep going.
Abhishek Bachchan is currently basking in the rave reviews he is receiving for his raw and vulnerable performance in Shoojit Sircar's I Want To Talk. However, Junior Bachchan's journey in the film industry has not been a cakewalk. Unlike his father, Amitabh Bachchan, who is renowned for his acting prowess to this day, Abhishek's skills would be hailed periodically in films like Guru, Sarkar, and Delhi-6. Recently, the actor opened up about a period when his career went through a lull. As Abhishek seriously considered quitting showbiz, it was his father, Amitabh, who motivated him to stick around.
Abhishek Bachchan recently sat for an interview with Galatta Plus, during which he recalled a tough phase in his career when none of his movies were working. The artist stated that regardless of who he worked with, his performances were being severely bashed by critics.
According to Abhishek, he worked with some of the biggest directors during that period in the hopes that they would teach him and help him rectify the flaws he hadn't managed to correct. However, things didn't quite go that way. The actor further recalled a particularly weak moment when he went to talk to his dad, Amitabh. In Abhishek's words:
"Eventually at a weaker moment, which is embarrassing for me to think of now, I went to my dad and I said 'we need to talk, I think we have made a mistake. I don't think I am cut out for this because no matter what I do, it isn't working, I have tried everything. I have tried all genres. I have tried all kinds of cinema. I have tried all kind of filmmakers and I am just not able to do it. Maybe it's time for me to be honest with myself and say you are not cut out for this, you are not good enough, find something else to do'. And I did go and speak to him about this and he reassured me."
Abhishek Bachchan revealed that during that low phase, his father, Amitabh Bachchan, helped him carry on. Senior Bachchan gave his son a much-needed boost by expressing his belief that there was a "hidden good actor" inside Abhishek. To Dhoom actor futher narrated:
"He said 'look, I am talking to you as a senior, not as your father. You are nowhere near the finished product. You have a lot of improving to do and I am noticing improvement in every film of yours. There is a hidden good actor within you. How good you become is upto you and how hard you want to work. The only way you will be able to polish your craft is by working so go out there, whatever film you get just sign and just work' and that's what I did."
Abhishek Bachchan further revealed that this conversation with his father, Amitabh Bachchan, led him to start taking up support roles. Abhishek said:
"I didn't care what kind of a role it was supporting, secondary, tertiary, I did everything, until I found the confidence in myself. Until I could deliver at the box office and people started banking on me as a leading man again."
