Natasha was raised in Pune, and after her graduation, she went to the London School of Economics to pursue her Master’s degree. It was at a New Year’s party in Goa hosted by Vijay Mallya, where she met Adar for the first time. It was her first trip to Goa without her parents. In an interview with Vogue India, Natasha recalled her first meeting with Adar and said:
“We didn’t really drink or party. We got to know each other and laughed a lot. I told him, ‘We’re going to be really good friends.’”
After their first meeting, Natasha and Adar fell in love. He went back to Pune to manage his business, and she travelled back to London to complete her Master’s. The duo were miles apart and continued their long-distance dating. They would meet after a few months, but long-distance dating became quite difficult. In the same interview with Vogue, Natasha revealed that Adar had told her since the beginning how he wanted to get married to her. Sharing details about their dating phase, Natasha shared:
“I was like, ‘I’m in London, I want to work.’ He was like, ‘Come and work with me. It’ll be so much fun!’ And I said, ‘That’s crazy! We’re just dating.’ He went back to India and I was here for about two years after that, finishing my master’s. We’d see each other every few months. His focus was clear from day one. He was like, ‘I like you. I know I want to get married. This is it.”
After dating for some time, Natasha Poonawalla and Adar Poonawalla tied the knot in 2006 and became parents to two sons, Cyrus and Darius. After her marriage to Adar, Natasha joined the family business and her father-in-law, Cyrus Poonawalla, introduced her to the board at SII. She worked as an intern in every department.
Natasha currently manages human resources and oversees project design at SII. She also oversees the Villoo Poonawalla Charitable Foundation, which was started after her late mother-in-law, Villoo Poonawala. Natasha was very close to her mother-in-law, and her passion for philanthropy comes from her. When Villoo passed away, the family started a foundation in her name, and Natasha looked after its overall operation.
Natasha was raised in a household where she was not encouraged to speak above the elders or her husband. However, her in-laws were quite the opposite, as they would take her opinion on everything related to the family business.
Apart from being a successful businesswoman, Natasha is a fashionista who is known for her out-of-the-box looks. She loves dressing up, and her conceptual looks and broad hats often confuse people about what she is wearing. But it is her husband, Adar, who has always been supportive of what she wears. Speaking about the same, she stated:
“Often people couldn’t understand what I was wearing. They’d say, ‘What’s that? A dish antenna?’ My husband has always said, ‘If you love it, do it.’ If you’re comfortable being ridiculously dressed, how does it matter to anybody else?”
Adar Poonawalla and Natasha Poonawalla are made for each other and have been each other’s biggest cheerleaders. What do you think about them?
