Aditi Govitrikar was the first Indian to win the Mrs. World title in 2001. The doe-eyed beauty was the only Indian supermodel with both medical and psychologist qualifications. The perfect example of beauty with brains, Aditi was a phenomenon in the 90s. She is still remembered for the popular music video, Kabhi To Nazar Milao, and even after so many years, people are in love with her.

Born in Panvel, Maharashtra, Aditi excelled in academics and went on to pursue an MBBS. Subsequently, she started modelling and won the Gladrags Megamodel Contest in 1996. Aditi modelled for many leading brands and also appeared in TV commercials. A supermodel who was a rage in the glamour world and a medical practitioner, Aditi was a lethal combination.

Aditi Govitrikar fell in love with her senior in college

Aditi was very studious, but her beauty had always caught attention. While practicing medicine, Aditi fell in love with her senior, Muffazal Lakdawalla. They became friends and soon fell head-over-heels in love. The duo reportedly dated for almost six years.

When Aditi graduated from medical college in 1997, she and Muffazal decided to get married. However, her parents did not support her marriage to Muffazal since he belonged to a different religion. Muffazal’s parents, too, opposed their union. But as they say, when you are in love, nothing else matters.

Aditi Govitrikar converted to Islam to get married to Muffazal Lakdawalla

Despite opposition from both their parents, Aditi Govitrikar and Muffazal Lakdawalla decided to tie the knot in 1998. They married under civil and Muslim law. For her interfaith marriage with Muffazal, Aditi converted to Islam and even changed her name to Sarah Lakdawalla. Soon, they embraced parenthood with the arrival of their daughter, Kiara, in 1999. The couple welcomed a baby boy, Zhiaan, in 2007 and completed their family.

After the birth of their son, the couple’s marriage started crumbling. Problems started owing to Muffazal’s hectic work and Aditi’s professional commitments. There were many reports about the couple having constant fights and ego clashes. Amid their separation rumours, it was reported that Muffazal left for Australia, and Aditi returned to her maternal home with her kids.

The couple separated in 2008, and Aditi retained custody of her kids. Amid all the fiasco, Aditi maintained her silence, and a source stated that Muffazal was in no mood to work on their marriage.

Aditi Govitrikar called her failed marriage the lowest point of her life

For Aditi Govitrikar, her failed marriage was the lowest point of her life. The actress tried everything in her capacity to save her crumbling marriage but couldn’t do so. Once, in a throwback interview with Siddharth Kannan, Aditi talked about the same and shared:

“Failure of my marriage is one of the lowest points of my life. I like winning. Since childhood I have wanted to win, I wanted to be first in class, I wanted to win 'Fear Factor', I wanted to win 'Bigg Boss'. In that aspect, to have a partnership fall apart like that was difficult to digest. I thought, ‘Mere saath aise kaise ho gaya.”

In the same interview, Aditi also spoke about not getting a closure despite years of separation. Hoping to find peace someday, she stated:

“I thought, mere saath aise kaise ho gaya. I wish someday we sit across the table and sort out because sometimes you need closure after a fight. There are many unsaid things, so maybe someday we will…A closure will be good for both. It's been 13 years, but you can't forget your past."

Aditi Govitrikar is single-handedly raising her kids

After her divorce from Muffazal Lakdawalla, Aditi shifted her focus towards her career in the glamour world. On the other hand, Muffazal had a second marriage in 2011. The actress, who is single-handedly raising her two kids, feels it is extremely difficult as she has to play the role of both parents. Speaking about the same in her interview with Siddharth Kannan, Aditi said:

“My parents used to make decisions for us together. It may be as small as deciding whether kids should go on a trip, I had to decide everything alone and play both father and mother. There was also the feeling of guilt for leaving my children with my mother or sister for work."

Aditi Govitrikar’s professional life

After winning Gladrags, Aditi was bombarded with many modelling assignments. She ventured into acting in 1999 with the Telugu film, Thammudu. Aditi was later seen in films like Paheli, Baaz: A Bird in Danger, De Dana Dan, Bheja Fry 2, and many others. Apart from film, Aditi was also seen in reality shows like Bigg Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi. Aditi also garnered a lot of popularity with her role in the OTT series, Mismatched.
