After Kiara Advani, Preity Zinta has come under netizens' radar after her interview with a changed accent surfaced on social media.
Preity Zinta is undoubtedly one of the prominent names in the Hindi film industry. In the 2000s, the actress was at the top of her game and captivated the audience with her impeccable performances in films like Veer Zaara, Dil Chahta Hai, Dil Se.., Kal Ho Na Ho, and many more. However, in the following decade, she focussed more on her business endeavours than acting. Recognised for her dimpled cheeks and captivating persona, Preity is set to make a grand return to Bollywood with the much-anticipated film, Lahore 1947.
However, even before her silver screen comeback, Preity Zinta graced the esteemed Cannes Film Festival 2024 at the French Riviera. After 17 long years, the Indian actress returned to the sun-kissed shore of the city of Cannes. She walked the Cannes red carpet in a shimmery pink saree paired with a matching sleeveless blouse. In a video shared by Brut India, Preity was seen taking selfies with her fans, and when the interviewer asked her about her feelings on returning to the film festival, she said:
“It’s wonderful I am coming after a long time, I am very excited and happy to be here. My look is simple yet with a little bit of sparkle, understated.”

While Preity looked stunning in the saree from the shelves of Seema Gujral, what caught netizens' attention was her accent. A segment of the people on the internet pointed out her changed accent. Others defended their favourite actress. One user said, “What happened to her accent? For once why can’t they define the place from which they come from? Wearing a saree symbolising Indian authenticity but the accent!” Another wrote, “I am perplexed as to why Indians modify their accents when in foreign lands, engaging with natives. It comes across as disingenuous. Why cannot they retain their genuine selves?” Meanwhile, a third netizen mentioned, “Stop being judgmental folks.”

Prior to Preity Zinta, netizens had pointed out Kiara Advani’s fake accent when she attended an event on the sidelines of the ongoing Cannes Film Festival 2024. While the actress looked ethereally beautiful in a pink and black gown featuring a unique bow detailing on the hip, Kiara’s accent became the talk of the town. During her appearance on the red carpet of the Red Sea Film Foundation's Women in Cinema gala dinner, Kiara said that she felt humbled to be invited to such an esteemed event. Further, expressing her excitement to be present there,, she added:
“It’s very humbling. It’s very, very humbling. It’s going to be a decade in my career now. So I think it comes at a very special moment as well. I’m truly so humbled to be here at Cannes for the first time and be honoured by the Red Sea Foundation for Women In Cinema. It’s just such a humbling experience.”
For her first look in Cannes, Preity Zinta opted for a pristine white shimmery gown featuring bow detailing on the sleeves. She accessorised her look with a pair of dainty earrings and tied her hair into a neat bun to complete her look. The actress looked like a sight to behold as she struck poses. Preity flew to Cannes to present the Pierre Angenieux ExcelLens in Cinematography award to the renowned Indian cinematographer, Santosh Sivan.
