It was more than a decade back when Aishwarya Rai had added Bachchan to her name as she had exchanged wedding vows with Abhishek Bachchan. While Abhishek and Aishwarya’s wedding memories are still a treat to eyes and any picture or video takes internet by storm, their first look as husband and wife too, was a sight to behold. The newly-weds had flown to Tirupati for their post-wedding puja when they had posed for the first time as Mrs and Mrs Bachchan for the paparazzi. While Aishwarya had swooned her fans in her bahu avatar as she had donned a red-coloured saree and had accentuated her look with mangalsutra and sindoor, Abhishek had complemented his wife in a white kurta.
In a post-wedding interview with the Hindustan Times, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had recalled the moment when it had sunk in that she was married. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya had flown to Bora Bora for their honeymoon and it was in the flight where she was first addressed as Mrs Bachchan. Recalling her reaction, Aishwarya had said, “It was on the flight to our honeymoon in Bora Bora. The stewardess welcomed me on-board saying, ‘Welcome, Mrs Bachchan.’ And Abhishek and I just looked at each other and burst out laughing! And it hit me, I’m married! I’m Mrs Bachchan!”
Did you know that Abhishek Bachchan had proposed Aishwarya Rai with a ‘fake’ ring? So, the interesting story behind the ‘fake’ ring is that it was the same one, which he had used in Guru to propose his ladylove in the film. It was no solitaire or any expensive ring but a prop from the sets of their film, Guru. Yes, Abhishek had proposed to Aishwarya for marriage with a fake ring in his hand but lots of love in his heart. On a romantic and freezing night in New York, Abhishek went down on his knees with a ring in his hand, in the balcony of their hotel, and had asked Aishwarya for marriage. Though she was surprised and completely swept off her feet, the lady had finally said ‘Yes’! Though Abhishek Bachchan had made Aishwarya Rai his ‘forever’ and gifted her a solitaire engagement ring and an-all diamond mangalsutra, it is him who had found a ‘diamond’ in his life as his wife. Aishwarya’s 45 lakh worth mangalsutra was a long and double-layered neckpiece with a diamond pendant. However, a few years after their wedding, Aishwarya had personalised her mangalsutra by making it cut short and sleek with a single layer and the same diamond pendent. Reports state that Aishwarya didn’t want to don a heavy neckpiece post the birth of her daughter, Aaradhya and to avoid the hassle of managing it, she had made it single-stringed and short.
Some words of praises for his dear wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan had admitted during the promotions of his film, Happy New Year, “She’s very down-to-earth, rooted, simple and real. She’s very beautiful, which everyone knows. But as a person, she is far more beautiful. She’s not what you’d expect her to be. You may think she’s an internationally known star and so beautiful, so she must have an attitude. But Aishwarya connects with you easily.” (Also Read: Jaya Bachchan's Reaction When Amitabh Bachchan Was Declared 'Clinically Dead' After Coolie Accident)
