Throwback to the time when Aishwarya Rai claimed to be together with Vivek Oberoi, a year after the latter claimed that they had broken up.
Aishwarya Rai and Vivek Oberoi were the much sought-after couple in B-Town back in the early 2000s. The duo started dating right after Aishwarya broke up with Salman Khan. However, their relationship didn’t stick longer, and they parted ways in 2003. At that time, Vivek even publicly claimed how Aishwarya’s ex, Salman Khan, threatened him for dating the former, which took a toll on his career. Fast forward to today, Aishwarya and Vivek have moved on and are happily settled with their respective spouses and children.
Well, while Vivek Oberoi’s press conference didn’t only dig up the dirty underbelly of things in the film industry, it also hinted at the reason behind their breakup. However, shortly after the incident, Aishwarya Rai made headlines with a bizarre statement. Turning cover girl for Stardust Magazine for their December 2004 issue, Aishwarya Rai made headlines with a statement about her personal life, when she claimed:
“Vivek and I are still together.”

Fast forward to now, both Vivek Oberoi and Aishwarya Rai have moved on in their lives. While the actor is married to his ladylove, Priyanka Alva, the former Miss World is married to Abhishek Bachchan. The duo tend to avoid topics about their shared past in the media. However, some time back, in an interaction on Anas Boukhash’s podcast, Vivek made some candid revelations about his personal life. The actor revealed how he got hurt multiple times in past relationships since his exes were dishonest, and they left him despite promises of commitment. While Vivek didn’t take any particular name well, it made many wonder whether his statements hinted at his breakup with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
In the same interview, Vivek Oberoi talked about the learnings he has gotten from all the past relationships of his. He revealed how those phases of his life made him realise that having a hero complex in reel life had no relation with that in real life. In his words:
“Each serious relationship teaches you. It leaves you with something. The bad breakups, the really toxic relationships teach you your patterns. They teach you what you should stay away from. Like I discovered that some of us have a hero complex, where you come in like a knight in shining armour, and say, I will take care of this for you.”

In a previous interview with Bollywood Bubble, Vivek Oberoi was asked whether he would’ve wanted to date Aishwarya Rai right at the time when he started his career. In his response, the actor simply refused to comment and termed his former relationship ‘done and dusted’. Moreover, he mentioned that he never again spoke about his past with Aishwarya Rai until he was married.
