S. Ajith Kumar is one of the most popular actors in Tamil cinema. The actor, who made his acting debut in 1990 with the film, En Veedu En Kanavar, Ajith s among the highest-paid actors in India. Hailed as ‘Thala’ (Leader), Ajith enjoys a massive fandom across the South. With films like Amarkalam, Mugavaree, Citizen, Villain, Poovellam Un Vasam, Varalaru, Billa, Mankatha, Arrambam, Veeram, and Yennai Arindhaal, Ajith has proved his versatility as an actor.
Apart from being an actor, Ajith is also a racing driver and has competed in various circuits around India. He is one of the few Indians to race in the international arena in FIA championships. While everyone is well-versed in the filmy love story of Ajith and Shalini, not many know that before marrying Shalini, Ajith was madly in love with actress, Heera Rajagopal. Yes, you read that right. Read on to learn about their affair and the reason behind their breakup.
Before meeting Shalini, Ajith was in a serious relationship with Heera Rajagopal. It was one of the most talked about affairs of the South Indian film industry in the 90s. Ajith and Heera fell in love while shooting for the film, Kathal Kottai. The relationship deepened when they starred together in their next film, Thodarum.
Ajith and Heera were head-over-heels in love with one another, and their co-stars knew about their serious relationship. He even used to write letters for her. A character artist had once claimed to read one of the letters written by Ajith. As per multiple reports, the couple planned to take the next step and get married.
Though Heera and Ajith planned to settle down, her mother was against the same. She didn’t want to end her daughter’s acting career at such a young age. Another reason for their breakup was Heera’s changed behaviour towards Ajith, which caused the two to parted ways in 1998. In a throwback interview with a tabloid, Ajith talked about his breakup with Heera and said:
“We lived together, I really liked her but now everything has changed she is not the same person anymore, in fact, she is a drug addict.”
Shalini was one of the leading actresses in the Malayalam industry when she met Ajith. The actress enjoyed a huge fan following as she made her debut as a child artist and gained huge popularity. Ajith revealed that he worked with Shalini for the first time in the film, Amarkalam in 1999, and it was love at first sight for Ajith.
Despite coming from different religious faiths, Ajith and Shalini tied the knot on April 24, 2000. It was back in 2007 when Ajith Kumar shared an interesting anecdote about his love story and marriage with Shalini. In the conversation, Ajith revealed that he accidentally cut Shalini's wrist while they were filming a scene, but both of them were completely unaware of it.
The actor further added that it was when blood started flowing down her veins that he realised that he had cut her wrist. She was admitted to the hospital immediately, and Ajith took complete care of her. Ajith’s concern and care made Shalini fall in love with him, and since then, the two started dating, and the rest is history.
