When Akshay Kumar Revealed He Was Sexually Abused By A Liftman, Shared His Parents' Reaction

Once in an interview, B-Town's 'Khiladi Kumar', Akshay Kumar opened up about his experience with sexual abuse as a child and shared what his parents' reaction to it was. Check it out!

Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar is undoubtedly one of the few stars in the film industry, who has proved the mettle of his acting in most of the popular genres out there. Whether we talk about action, comedy, thriller, horror, romance or biographical drama, Akshay has experimented a lot with his film choices over the decades. Also, Akshay is a master in balancing the art of money-making with commercial films and winning everyone's hearts with concept-based films. Apart from his successful career, he also inspires people to be fit and healthy, as he always prioritises fitness over everything.

For the unversed, on January 17, 2001, Akshay Kumar had got married to the love of his life and actress-turned-author, Twinkle Khanna. After just one year of their happily ever after, it was on September 15, 2002, when the much-in-love couple had embraced parenthood for the first time. Twinkle and Akshay had welcomed a baby boy in their lives, whom they had named, Aarav. After this, on September 25, 2012, Twinkle had given birth to a baby girl, whom they had named, Nitara.

In August 2017, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, Akshay Kumar had recalled the traumatic time when he was sexually abused as a child. Talking about the tragic incident, Akshay clearly stated that victims don't need to hide these things from their parents or loved ones. He also told parents and everyone to support the victim instead of finding flaws in them. In order to empower everyone with his own story, Akshay had revealed that once when he was inside a lift, the liftman had touched him inappropriately. As a child, it was a heartbreaking incident for him to deal with. Recalling the same, he had said:

"Let me share my own experience with you all here. When I was a very young kid, a lift-man once touched me inappropriately."

Going further in the interview, Akshay Kumar had also admitted that it wasn't easy for him to tell his parents, Hari Om Bhatia and Aruna Bhatia, about the liftman, who abused him sexually. However, the actor explained that he knew that what the liftman had done to him was completely wrong and his parents need to be aware of it. Thus, with some courage, he went to his mom and dad and told them about the whole incident. Akshay had also added that the liftman was a habitual offender as he wasn't the only child, whom he had abused sexually. He had said:

"Since I had good communication with my parents, I told them about this incident. Later the same person was caught in another case and was found to be a habitual offender."

There's no denying the fact that Akshay Kumar's friendly bond with his parents had played a crucial part in his case. However, even when he had become a superstar in Bollywood, he had always taken good care of his parents. From taking them to their routine check-ups to spending quality time with them, Akshay had prioritised them over anything else. Once in an interview with NDTV, Akshay's mother, late Aruna Kumar had talked about her son, Akshay and how he had taken care of everything after her husband, Hari Om Bhatia's demise. She had said:

"He has always done whatever he wanted. And by the grace of God, it worked out. No one in our family is from the film line, so just looking at him on screen, gives me so much joy. He is not just my son. He is so much more than that. After my husband died, he handled everything so well that my pain was reduced. There's no other son like him."
