In a recent interview, Alia Bhatt opened up about how motherhood changed her and revealed she hasn't had therapy for the last two months.
Alia Bhatt is one of the most talented actresses of her generation. She has perfectly managed her work and personal life and aced both her roles. The actress is currently busy shooting for her upcoming action film, Alpha. Alia is married to the love of her life, Ranbir Kapoor, and the duo has a daughter, Raha Kapoor. The baby girl is the centre of her parents' universe, and they adore her.
For the unversed, Alia Bhatt became a mother to her baby girl, Raha, in 2022. In an interview with Allure magazine, the actress talked about her daughter and revealed that she is chatty and naughty. Alia also mentioned that her biggest challenge is maintaining a balance between work and motherhood, but she hasn't been getting any me-time for herself. In her words:
“She’s naughty. She’s chatty. She has moments of being shy. She’s just her own person, but she’s very bright. That’s my main focus. How do I ping-pong between the two and do them well, but also find a way to carve out time for myself, which I'm not able to do. I'll be very candid right now—there’s no such thing as me time. I've not even been able to get a therapy session for the last two months.”
Alia further shared that for her, motherhood has been a combination of joy and worry because she wants to do everything right. She explained that she is not a fan of helicopter parenting and abides by what her parents told her. The actress added that children need the tools to deal with their life and parents should be a catalyst in the process. In her words:
“Your soul is sort of fulfilled, but you are also always full of fear and nerves because of just wanting to do it right and wanting to do it well. Children come through you. They’re yours, you are a catalyst, you are a source for their life, but their life is not yours. Their life is theirs, and you just need to give them the tools to deal with their life.”
Further in the conversation, Alia Bhatt also discussed the beauty standards in India and how the movie industry is rigid about it. She shared that she has always been a little judgmental of her body and has struggled with body image issues ever since she decided to become an actress. She said:
“I was quite a chubby, healthy kind of kid, very happy with my life at the time. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the way I looked. I have struggled with body-image issues since then. No matter how much weight I lost, I always struggled. My friends would say, ‘Alia, you need to stop dieting. Just be calm, live a little, eat some food.’ And I used to be like, Once a fat kid, always a fat kid. I used to say that in my head, no matter how much weight I lost.”
However, Alia mentioned that something changed when she was pregnant as she began to respect her body. Pregnancy made her realise that even though she was a part of the showbiz world, she would never be hard on herself for her looks. Talking about it, the actress said:
“I had so much respect for my body and was so enamoured with what it could do. It made me realise that even though I was in this business, I would never be hard on myself about the way I look or certain extra kilos over here or a certain bloated belly over there.”
