Born as Harneet Kaur on July 8, 1958, to Punjabi Jat Sikh parents, Neetu Singh made her Bollywood debut as a child artist, shortly after her father's demise. Neetu became a Kapoor when she tied the knot with Rishi Kapoor in 1980. Rishi and Neetu became proud parents to Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Ranbir Kapoor. Post Rishi's demise, Riddhima and Ranbir have been their mother, Neetu's pillars of strength.

To mark Neetu Kapoor's 63rd birthday, the Kapoors and Bhatts came together to celebrate on the eve with a special dinner hosted at her residence. Riddhima gave glimpses of the birthday celebration and to wish Neetu on her special day, the designer wrote, "Me & mine! Happiest bday Ma! We love you so much." Kareena Kapoor Khan posted a throwback picture of Neetu Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor with the caption "Happiest birthday dearest Neetu aunty."

When Neetu Kapoor had celebrated her 62nd birthday in July 2020, Alia Bhatt had penned a sweet wish for her future mother-in-law. Sharing a throwback monochrome picture of Neetu, Alia had written, "Happy Happy Birthday @neetu54 You have and always will inspire me every single day. Love you too much."
On June 28, 2021, Neetu Kapoor had posted a picture, featuring her 'world' in a frame. Neetu had posed with Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and Samara Sahni for a happy picture, which she had captioned as "My World". Riddhima had also posted IG stories from their family get-together with the captions, "Love" and "Fam-jam" followed by pink heart emoji. For the fam-jam, Alia had repeated her peach off-shoulder dress which she had worn at Soni Razdan's birthday bash.
On October 25, 2020, Alia Bhatt had celebrated her mom, Soni Razdan's birthday with Mahesh Bhatt, Shaheen Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Samara Sahni. Alia had opted for a peach-coloured off-shoulder dress for Soni's birthday bash. Sharing a picture with Soni from the celebrations, Alia had written, "They say - when you're looking at your mother you're looking at the purest love you'll ever know. Happy Birthday Maa .. I love you so so much" followed by a heart emoji.
