Ssmilly Suri opens up about Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt's spat

Now, in a candid conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Ssmilly Suri opened up about the ‘sibling rivalry’ between her uncles, Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt. She mentioned how it didn’t affect her as they were ‘never a family’ in her eyes. Reportedly, for 30 years, Mukesh along with his brother, Mahesh used to produce films under the production house, Vishesh Films. However, Mukesh officially took over the production house in 2021 after a few differences between the brothers. Following this, Mahesh stepped down from the company, which was controlled and run by Mukesh and his children, including Sakshi Bhatt and Vishesh Bhatt. Speaking about the same, she said:

“It didn’t affect me. I was myself an outsider so these things don’t affect me. These things were bound to happen. We were never united. It’s sad but I don’t think we ever were a family. A lot of families go through this. Sibling rivalry and all that but everything is very hidden. Ghar ki baat ghar mein rahne chahiye.”

“A lot of times even in Mumbai during Covid, I had exhausted my savings. I had enough food for my dogs but not for myself. So, I would survive on coffee and have one banana at the end of the day and sleep. This was the time I lost a lot of weight. Mohit (Suri) got very upset and he transferred some money. There have been days when I have starved. There also have been times when I have gone to the langar and eaten. There is this self-respect that comes into play when you have been treated badly.”

Ssmilly Suri in comparison with her and her cousin, Alia Bhatt, Emraan Hashmi's career

In another interview with News18 Showsha, Ssmilly looked back at the years that passed by. She then mentioned having no complaints or insecurities looking at her cousins, Emraan Hashmi and Alia Bhatt, who have better careers today. Speaking about the same, she shared:

“In my case, I never received the perks of nepotism. Yes, I began my career with Kalyug. But I had to audition for it. After that, I only worked with other production houses. It never mattered to anyone that I was Bhatt sahab’s niece or Mohit’s sister. I did ask both of them (Mahesh and Mohit) for work after Kalyug but at that time, they were largely working with Emraan, who’s also my brother. I don’t think they had anything for me back then. I’m very happy for them. I’m not somebody who gets jealous. I’m the kind who would clap for you more than I would clap for myself. Having said that, I know that a day will come when people will clap for me too.”
