Amar Singh Chamkila's first wife, Gurmail Kaur opened up about her last meeting with the late singer and Amarjot, just two days before they were assassinated.
Amar Singh Chamkila, popularly known as the ‘Elvis of Punjab’, was assassinated at the mere age of 27. He along with his second wife, Amarjot Kaur, was shot down by unknown assailants in Mehsampur, Punjab. Chamkila's life and death have come into the limelight since Imtiaz Ali released the late singer's biopic, Amar Singh Chamkila on Netflix. Now, Amar's first wife, Gurmail Kaur recalled their last meeting.
In a recent interview with the YouTube channel, Cine Punjabi, Chamkila’s first wife, Gurmail Kaur, opened up about her final meeting with Chamkila and Amarjot before their death. She said that the duo paid her a visit just two days before they died and that she could sense that something bad was about to happen. Gurmail recalled that she got an eerie feeling while she was making chapatis that day.

Gurmail further stated that even Amarjot, who was chopping vegetables while sitting beside her, noticed that something was off. The latter asked Gurmail the reason behind her worry and what she was thinking. However, she didn’t tell Amarjot anything. Later, Gurmail talked to her father-in-law and shared that she felt something was not right. She also asked him if he felt the same, but he refused.
Gurmail also opened up about how they were financially affected after her husband's death. Stating that it was a very difficult time in her life, she revealed that she used to work as a daily wage worker and got Rs. 5 per day. In the same conversation, when Gurmail was asked if Chamkila’s fans and relatives offered help to her during her struggling phase, she revealed that no one came to her assistance.

Amar Singh Chamkila never divorced his first wife, Gurmail Kaur and got married for the second time to Amarjot Kaur. Talking about the same, Gurmail also shared that despite tying the knot with Amarjot, her husband took care of her and her kids, Amandeep and Kamaldeep. He supported them financially and also bought a piece of land for them. Mentioning that she never visited Chamkila's akhadas, Gurmail revealed:
“I was so proud of him. He was so famous, I had nothing to worry about.”
