Amarjot's elder sister divulged details about their family's relationship with Amar Singh Chamkila.
Amar Singh Chamkila was one of the most talented singers in Punjab. The singer touched the soul of the music fanatics with the lyrics, which had a touch of realism along with it. Moreover, it was his collaboration with Amarjot that made them a hit pair back in the '80s. If the reports are to be believed, the duo was so famous back then that they did 366 shows in just 365 days and were paid Rs. 4000 for their shows, which was worth millions back then. However, Chamkila and Amarjot remained not only as music partners, but they later hopped onto their forever journey, despite the former being married and having two kids with his first wife.
While Imtiaz Ali's film, Amar Singh Chamkila is receiving much love from the audience, recently, Amarjot's elder sister opened up about their complex relationship with the singer. In a recent interview with BBC Hindi, Amarjot's elder sister stated that there was no plan for the former's marriage, and Chamkila didn't tell them that he was already married to Gurmali Kaur.

Talking about the same, she revealed that their father's two conditions were the boy whom Amarjot would get married should be unmarried and a singer. However, Chamkila and Amarjot tied the knot. Amarjot's sister also stated that it was only after the birth of Jaiman that they learned about Chamkila's first marriage. In Amarjot's sister's words:
"There were no plans of Amarjot’s marriage. Chamkila didn’t tell us that he is already married. He told us that he is unmarried. My father had two conditions – that the boy should be singer and unmarried. They finally tied the knot. After the birth of Amarjot and Chamkila’s son, we got to know about his first marriage."
The ‘Elvis Presley of Punjab', i.e., Amar Singh Chamkila, along with Amarjot, was assassinated at an akhada back in 1988, and the mystery behind the same is still not resolved. Talking about it, Amarjot's elder sister stated that it's been 36 years, and they still haven't gotten justice. She also added that their family members demanded punishment of the perpetrators. Amarjot's sister stated:
"It has been 36 years but we still haven’t gotten any justice, no file was opened. We demand that the perpetrators should be arrested and punished. We have lost our family members so they should be punished."
Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot have a son, Jaiman, who followed in the footsteps of his father and is a singer. On the other hand, Chamkila and Gurmail Kaur have two daughters, Amandeep Kaur and Kamaldeep Kaur. However, in an old interview with Cine Punjabi in 2023, Jaiman mentioned that he has been in touch with Chamkila's two daughters.

There is no clarification about why Chamkila and Amarjot were killed, but as per several reports, the jealousy around other singers for Chamkila's widespread popularity can be one of the reasons why the duo was killed. Another theory behind Chamkila and Amarjot's assassination was due to the Khalistan movement. On the other hand, it is also believed that Chamkila and Amarjot were probably killed due to professional rivalry.
