Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan's wedding is one of the most loved topics. There are not many details in public domain, as Amitabh clearly stated that it was a rushed affair. His father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan had put a condition on him that he would only allow him to go on a trip with Jaya Bachchan to London if they get married. Now, Aamir Khan left Amitabh and his fans surprised by showing him his wedding anniversary card.
Amitabh and Jaya tied the knot in an extremely private ceremony on June 3, 1973. Their wedding affair was attended by only close family and friends at Jaya's residence in Mumbai. Recently, in a promo of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh was left shocked when Aamir surprised him with his wedding card.
In the video, Aamir asked Amitabh about his wedding date, when the latter gave the correct answer, the Ghajni star counter questioned if he had any proof of it. Aamir shared that he has something that proves he is his biggest fan. He took out a white envelope with a yellow leaflet inside it. It was a minimalistic that only had the wedding information.
With red ink, the card was written in Devnagari and English. On the left hand, one could read the famous lines by the writer, WB Yeats' poem, That The Night Come. It could be read as:
"Lived as 'twere a king, that packed his marriage day. With banneret and pennon, trumpet and kettledrum, and the outrageous cannon, to bundle time away, that the night come."
Not only this, on the right side, Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan also included beautiful chopai from the Hindu text, Ramcharitmanas. It could be read as "Jab te ram byahi ghar aaye, nit nav mangal modh badhaye." It means that ever since Lord Ram got married to Goddess Sita, there has been only joy in Ayodhya.
Below these beautiful lines, one can read a message by Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan talking about his son's wedding. It states:
"The marriage of our son Amitabh & Jaya, the daughter of Smt. & Shri Taroon Coomar Bhaduri, was solemnized on Sunday, the 3rd June, 1973 at Bombay. Your blessings are solicited."
The Bachchans love keeping their weddings private affairs. Once, the late poet, Harivansh Rai Bachchan shared details about his son, Abhishek Bachchan's wedding in his autobiography titled, Afternoon Of Time. According to a report by Rediff, Harivansh Rai Bachchan revealed that the wedding was an intimate affair with only a handful of people in attendance.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan also revealed that his son Amitabh's baraat had only five people, two of whom were the poet himself and political leader, Sanjay Gandhi. The wedding was held at Amitabh and Jaya's friend's home on the top floor of the Skylark building in Malabar Hills. However, Jaya Bachchan's family wasn't happy with it.
