A producer pitched Amitabh Bachchan the idea of recreating Mughal-e-Azam with Jaya and Abhishek-Aishwarya

Aishwarya and Abhishek were seen in the song, Kajra Re, from the movie, Bunty Aur Babli alongside Amitabh Bachchan, which has a separate fanbase. In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Mehul Kumar said that once a big South Indian producer wanted to remake the iconic film, Mughal-e-Azam with the Bachchans, and he also pitched the idea to Amitabh. Mehul said the producer's idea was that Amitabh would play 'Emperor Akbar', while Jaya Bachchan would be 'Jodha Bai'. The producer wanted Aishwarya to be 'Anarkali' and Abhishek as 'Salim'.

After the producer pitched the idea to Amitabh, the actor first wanted to know what Mehul would have to say about remaking Mughal-e-Azam. Sharing his perspective, Mehul told the producer that the idea probably wouldn't work for the best as Mughal-e-Aazm could never be remade.

He stated that people would surely compare it to the original version. Mehul revealed that Amitabh then agreed to whatever he had to say on remaking the movie with the Bachchans. And this is why the proposal never worked out. In Mehul's words:

"I told them that Mughal-e-Azam can’t be remade. You are making a proposal but this proposal won’t fly because people will compare it with the original film. Because that one was such a historical film. He then called Amit ji that this is what Mehul Kumar has said. Amit ji said that Mehul is said the right thing."

Amitabh Bachchan talked about working with Aishwarya Rai on Kajra Re

The song from Bunty Aur Babli, Kajra Re, remained one of the favourites among the audience. Talking about the same Big B on Kaun Banga Crorepati 15, he stated that when the three of them performed on that song, Aishwarya was not his daughter-in-law, but now she is. Amitabh also added that Kajra Re had lyrics about Ballimaran, and in the same song, Aishwarya played his bahurani.
