The super hit song, 'Jhumka Gira Re' was inspired by Amitabh Bachchan's mother, Teji Bachchan's way of expressing love for Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
The superhit song, Jhumka Gira Re Bareilly Ke Bazaar Mein, has a permanent place in the hearts of movie buffs. The song featured Sadhana and Sunil Dutt and was a part of the 1966's film, Mera Saaya. We love humming this song, but no one really knows the back story of it. People think that the song has a huge connection to Bareilly. While it is partially true, no one knows that it has a huge connection to Amitabh Bachchan's parents, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan.
For those who don't know, Harivansh Rai Bachchan was earlier married to Shyama Bachchan, who passed away in 1936. In 1941, Harivansh Rai Bachchan met Teji Suri in Bareilly. They attended a tea party at a professor, Jyoti Prakash's house. The duo's eyes met, and they felt a connection.

According to several reports, when Harivansh read a poem, the words struck deep within Teji's heart and brought tears to her eyes. After which, the duo was inseparable. They would often meet at parties and poetry events, and their circle of friends would often ask them about their marriage plans. During one such event, Teji confessed her love to novelist, Raja Mehdi Saheb. In a poetic way, Teji had said:
"Mera jhumka toh Bareilly mein hi girr gaya tha."
The way Teji expressed her love for Harivansh Rai Bachchan left a huge mark in Raja Mehdi's heats. And years later, in 1966 he used the same line to compose the entire song, Jhumka Gira Re Bareilly Ke Bazaar Mein, which was sung by Asha Bhosle and composed by Madan Mohan.
