Throwback to the time when Amrita Singh reacted to Dimple Kapadia and Sunny Deol's alleged affair reports.
Born to veteran actor, Dharmendra and his first wife, Prakash Kaur, Ajay Singh Deol, a.k.a. Sunny Deol, is one of the most bankable actors in Bollywood. In 1983, Sunny Deol made a power-packed debut with the film, Betaab and made headlines not only for his good looks but also for his acting chops. To this day, his whistle-worthy dialogues give goosebumps to the audience.
Just like his handsome looks, Sunny also garnered attention for his controversial love life. The actor had a short fling with his Betaab co-actress, Amrita Singh, which ended soon. The reason behind Amrita and Sunny’s breakup is stated to be his secret wedding to a London-based girl named Pooja. Yes, Sunny was married to Pooja even before entering the film industry but kept it a secret.
But when Amrita Singh got to know about it, she decided to take a step back. But soon, the rumours of Sunny Deol and Dimple Kapadia's affair became a hot topic in social circles. Sunny, who was already married to Pooja, was head-over-heels in love with Dimple. She, too, was legally married to Rajesh Khanna at that point, but they were living separately.
Sunny and Dimple had done many movies together, and the duo was often spotted cosying up during the breaks on the film's sets. People were certain that something was cooking up between the two, and speculations of a secret wedding surfaced as well. Though neither Sunny nor Dimple reacted to the rumours, it was Sunny's ex-girlfriend, Amrita Singh, who had confirmed that he was in a relationship with Dimple. Speaking about the same, Amrita shared:
“I think she's having her cake and eating it too. She's got nothing to lose and most importantly, she's got her guy where she wants him. So what if it's not heading anywhere? When you've already lived a life, you are happy with a relationship that's at status quo."
Soon, the reports of Dimple and Sunny’s affair gained momentum, so much so that her daughters, Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna, started addressing Sunny as 'Chote Papa'. Not only this, Dimple’s sister, Simple, too, became his costume designer. The trio would visit filmmakers together and were spotted together all the time.
Despite being married to Pooja, Sunny was ready to divorce her and get married to Dimple. But his wife, Pooja, reportedly threatened to leave the house along with their two sons, Karan Deol and Rajveer Deol, if Sunny doesn't leave Dimple. Sunny, thus, chose to stay with his wife and kids, but that didn't end his controversial affair with Dimple.
The alleged ex-lovers garnered the limelight in 2017 when photos and videos of them holidaying in Monaco and holding hands like teenage lovers went viral. The leaked pictures showed Dimple and Sunny spending quality time together and indulging in a conversation while holding each other’s hands.
Sunny and Dimple reportedly dated for 11 long years, but some say they are still very much in love and often meet.
