Anu Malik Reveals How His Wife, Anju Helped Him Give Birth To His Hit Song, 'Ek Garam Chai Ki Pyali'

Now, famous music director and singer, Anu Malik appeared on the entertaining podcast.

For the unversed, the award-winning singer, Anu Malik had got married to his loving wife, Anjali Vasudev Bhat, popularly known as Anju. They are proud parents to their two daughters, Anmol Malik and Ada Malik. Though Anu's family stays away from the media glare, they are often spotted together at airports and parties.

In the latest episode of The Maniesh Paul Podcast, Anu Malik dot candid about his career in the Indian music industry and talked about how he had started off his journey in 1977. Anu Malik also revealed if he considers retirement as an option, and mentioned that the ultimate goal of a person should be to earn, eat, work and repeat. He also spilled beans on his cult songs and about his equation with other music composers of his time.

During one of the segments of the video, Anu Malik opened up about the incident that inspired him to compose his biggest hit, Ek Garam Chai Ki Pyali Ho. Talking about the same, he shared that it was his wife, Anju, who had helped him to come up with that song. He recalled how one morning Anju had come to wake him up with a cup of tea, and she was stirring the spoon in the cup and the rhythmic sound helped him make the chorus. He can be heard saying:

"In the morning, my wife comes to me and I am sleeping. She comes to me to hand me the tea, and she had a spoon in her hand. She didn't say 'Anu get up' instead started stirring the cup. Then slowly she brought it to my ears and said, 'you asked me to wake you up na?' I could hear the sound of the spoon, slow and musical, I was hearing a sweet sound and also getting the aroma of the tea. And then suddenly it came into my head, and I woke up, and I look at my wife. I said to her, Ek garam chai ki pyali ho, koi usko pilane wali ho', and she started smiling."

A few years back, in an interview with the Hindustan Times' Brunch, Anu Malik had opened up about his wife, Anju Anu Malik. The singer had recalled an interesting incident from his teenage days and had shared that he had composed a song for his lady. Talking about the same, Anu had said:

“My wife Anju and I got married when I was 22 and she was 21. This was after a long and emotional courtship in Mithibai College. I used to follow Anju, and one day, she complained to the college principal. I was so scared that I ran away to Khandala! It was raining and I composed the song Dekho Baarish Ho Rahi Hai for my lady." 

On the work front, Anu Malik had composed the song, Barsaat Ki Dhun in 2021.
