You have been seeing him for the past 8 years on the television anthology series, Crime Patrol. The show is nothing without him. You also remember him from the cult classic, Gangaajal, and many other television series and Bollywood films. Yes, you guessed it correctly. We are talking about Anup Soni.
Sadly, you are never going to see him again as the host of Crime Patrol as he recently quit it, citing the reason that the actor in him is getting killed every day. Does that mean we are going to see him in another show or movie? Well, beyond his immense talent which is so visible onscreen, and his versatile characters lies his personal life about which not many know in detail. So, let us unveil Anup Soni’s married life for you guys.
Anup Soni was born on January 30, 1975, in the state of Ludhiana, Punjab. Not much is known about his family. Anup had always dreamt of becoming an actor one day and for that, he enrolled at the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD) where he learnt professional acting. After graduating from NSD, he did a few TV soaps like Sea Hawks and Saaya. Post that, he appeared in many roles in both TV and big screen. He has enjoyed immense success with serials like Balika Vadhu, CID, among others.
Anup Soni has had two marriages. He was first married to Ritu Soni and got divorced in the year 2010. Ritu is a management graduate from Symbiosis, Pune and runs a software company. She had once confessed to a media portal that out of nowhere, she started sensing a change in Anup after 6 years into their marital life. Later, it turned out that the reason was none other than Raj Babbar’s daughter, Juhi Babbar. Ritu confided that Anup one day came up to her and said that he no longer would be able to take responsibility of their kids- Zoya and Myra. A source had revealed to the Times of India:
“Ritu ordered for Anup’s itemized mobile bills. Her fears and suspicions came true when she saw the bills, which clearly spelt that Anup was with Juhi over the phone for a large part of the day. Of course, she confronted Juhi. But Juhi told her that she was with Anup only on the phone”.
And then there was no looking back when one day Anup confessed to Ritu that he had been with Juhi for quite some time and had even spent numerous weekends with her in Pune. The source had revealed then,
“This was the limit. And then Anup left home to stay in their old house”.
Anup and Ritu got divorced in March 2010. Later, Ritu was quoted as saying,
“Yes, I have been wronged. My husband’s proximity with Juhi caused problems in my life. But if this is destiny, I wish Anup and Juhi the best in life. I want to concentrate on fortifying a happy future for my daughters with dignity”.
An actor-friend of Anup once told a media portal, “I"m shocked to hear this news. Anup is counted among the highly respected men of our industry. There are ups and downs in every relationship, but I never expected Anup and Ritu to go their separate ways”.
Undeniably, it was a tragedy on Ritu’s part. Anup Soni met Juhi Babbar when he joined the theatre group, Ekjute, in Mumbai itself and that was the day, the seeds of the end of his first marriage were sown, as rightly put by one of Ritu’s friends, “Ever since Anup joined Ekjute, his married life with Ritu went for a toss”.
Post Anup Soni and Ritu’s split, when the latter was approached to comment on Anup and Juhi’s relationship, she simply said, “Let Anup clarify if and when he wants to. Actually, he is the best person to talk about this. And let Ritu too say what she wants to”.
A source had revealed to the TOI, “Anup and Juhi met each other while doing theatre, a couple of years ago. Over the time they became close to each other and so he parted ways from his former wife Ritu”.
Another source, as per a report in Tellychakkar had said, “The two met while working for Juhi’s mother Nadira Babbar’s play. They had been dating for quite some time and Anoop’s ex-wife Ritu has even accused Juhi of being the reason for the couple’s divorce”.
In the year 2011, Anup Soni and Juhi Babbar got married in a very low-key affair. Interestingly, even for Juhi, this was the second marriage as she was earlier married to screenwriter, Bejoy Nambiar. After 2 years of marriage, the couple had parted ways and Juhi fell in love with Anup. Not much is known about the hush-hush wedding of Anup Soni and Juhi Babbar. But after 7 years of marriage, it seems, that they are in a very happy space now and also have a son named, Imaan Soni.
