Films like Gangster: A Love Story, Life in a…Metro, Barfi, and Ludo made Anurag one of the most sought-after directors in Bollywood. Just like his professional life, Anurag’s love story with Tani Basu is equally fascinating. Let us read on to know how he fell in love with Tani, who was his boss.
Anurag Basu met Tani while working on a documentary film in Guwahati, Assam. He was making the film for a company, where Tani was working in Delhi. She was his immediate boss at that time since Anurag was reporting to her. In an interaction with Samdish, Anurag revealed that while making the film, he and Tani connected.
In the same interaction, Anurag also stated that his affair with Tani started as an outdoor fling. Later, she went to Delhi, and he came back to Bombay. However, he later realised that his fling with her turned serious. When Tani came to Bombay, she started working with Anurag. They soon realised that the two were meant to be together.
During an official dinner at a five-star hotel, the table was packed with foreign delegates and the who’s who of the industry. The menu had fish in it, and like a true Bengali, Anurag got excited, but the dilemma was how to relish the fish with a fork and knife.
It was at that point, he saw Tani devouring fish with her own hands like a Bengali. Without caring about the elite people sitting along with her, Tani made sure to relish her fish. Anurag thought of it as a brave act and sat beside her. Inspired by her, he too started eating with his hands.
Though Anurag and Tani were madly in love, their respective parents were not happy with their relationship. After their constant pleas to their respective parents, the two families had agreed, and the couple had tied the marital knot. The couple is proud parents to two daughters, Ishana and Ahana.
It was Tani’s open-minded nature and understanding that played an important role in strengthening her and Anurag’s bond. The two have been each other’s pillars of strength during their high and low points. Despite years of marriage, Anurag and Tani are madly-in-love with each other and not a lot of people are aware of the fact that the romantic terrace scene in Anurag's blockbuster film, Murder (2004) was inspired by his and Tani's real-life love story.
