A Reddit user shared an old interview of Anurag Kashyap in which he talked about his biggest regret and also mentioned Imtiaz Ali's role in his life. Soon, netizens started reacting to it.
Anurag Kashyap is one of the prolific filmmakers in the Hindi film industry. He has made some masterpieces in Bollywood, including Gangs of Wasseypur, Dev.D, Gulaal, Manmarziyaan, Dobaaraa, Paanch, Black Friday, Lust Stories, and many others. Coming to his personal life, Anurag initially married Aarti Bajaj, and together, they have a daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap. However, after parting ways with Aarti, Anurag married actress, Kalki Koechlin, but they also got divorced in 2015.
Now, we stumbled upon an old interview of Anurag Kashyap with Film Companion, wherein he expressed the biggest regret of his life. The filmmaker was asked what he is scared of the most. To this, he gave a humble answer and mentioned that he is scared of losing his loved ones. However, he then went on to reveal how, during the initial years of his filmmaking career, he got so involved in his work that he couldn't save any time for his close ones. Elaborating the same, he shared:
“I’m very scared of losing loved ones. I’ve realised after a long time in the sense that… In my process of pursuing this… One film after another, that so called passion with which I actually enjoy making movies, I left a lot of things behind. I ignored a lot of things. Because when it really hit me hard… When my health slipped from my hand… It was so fast. Because I was working, I was doing yoga, I was swimming… I felt invincible. When it slipped out of my hands… It was like no amount of anything can save you. At that time you feel isolated, you feel alone. And then I realised I have isolated myself, in my pursuit for whatever I was doing. Constantly fighting to make my films my own way, everything…”

Further talking about the biggest regret in his life, Anurag mentioned about his daughter, Aaliyah. According to him, he got so involved in his work that he could not spend enough time with her when she was growing up. Further, narrating an incident from his recent times, when his friends and family were seated together and sharing anecdotes from Aaliyah's childhood, Anurag felt completely unknown to them. Moreover, he mentioned that he has realised how his filmmaker friend, Imtiaz Ali, whose daughter is close to Aaliyah, has probably spent more time with her than he has. Anurag continued:
“But there comes a point where I realise my daughter has suddenly grown up. I see her old pictures and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, I miss this.’ I’m sitting with Aarti and Aaliyah’s friend Ida and Ida’s mom Preeti, and Imtiaz… And they’re all talking, and they have these memories of this holiday and this and that. And I’m sitting there and I’m wondering, ‘Where was I?’ And I realise Imtiaz has spent more time with my daughter than I have."
In the same conversation, Anurag then mentioned how these things have greatly impacted him. He mentioned having the guilt due to the same. However, according to the filmmaker, there is no point in asking for forgiveness from his daughter now, as the pivotal time of her childhood has already passed. He stated:
"Then it eats you up inside. You don’t even know whether to apologise, because it’s too late to apologise. My daughter is all grown up. She has forgiven me. She has come out and talked to me. Why were you always working so much? And I would try to explain I made low budget films. I had to do twice the amount of work. Or three times the amount of work. And she understood, but still, you know, one could have made time.”
