Anurag Kashyap has been making headlines with his explosive interviews about the problem of racism and regional bias in the Hindi-film industry.
Anurag Kashyap is synonymous with making films on small towns and violence. The director-actor has recently given several interviews about the bitter truths of Bollywood, such as entourage costs and the high fees of stars. Now, in another interview with Janice Sequeira on her YouTube channel, Anurag shared his views on the problems of racism and hypocrisy in the Hindi film industry.
Anurag Kashyap has made several films, such as Dev D, Gulaal, Gangs of Wasseypur, and more. Many of his movies made actors like Pankaj Tripathi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui popular among the fans. However, Anurag refuses to take the credit for being a star-maker. He added that Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi, and Manoj Bajpayee are self-made stars based on their talent. However, they were initially not respected because Nawazuddin has a dark complexion, and Manoj Bajpayee was considered a 'villager'. He was quoted as saying:
"This industry doesn't respect people. They think that Nawazuddin is dark-skinned, Pankaj Tripathi is normal, Manoj Bajpayee is a 'gaonwala (villager)'… That's how they view people. They think if these people can become stars, so can they. They think that I can make anybody a star; I can't.

Anurag worked with Nawazuddin, Manoj, and Pankaj in movies like Gangs of Wasseypur and Gangs of Wasseypur 2. Fans loved both films and the characters became popular among the masses. He added that the they are genuinely talented artists, and he didn't make anyone a star.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui starred in Netflix's Serious Men, a Hindi Satirical comedy-drama movie based on class bias in India. During one of his interviews to Bollywood Hungama for promoting the film, Nawazuddin revealed that he has dealt with racism in Bollywood for several years. Also, the Kick actor shared that he was rejected in auditions for many years due to his skin colour. He said:
"I fought against [racism] for many years, and I hope that dark-skinned actresses are made heroines; it's very important. There is a bias that exists in the industry which needs to end for better films to be made. I was rejected for many years only because I'm short and I look a certain way, although, I can't complain now.
