Director of cult movies, Anurag Kashyap embraces love. The director has no qualms about his relationships and feels that everyone has to be at love in some stage of life.
His movies might be dark, but his love life is quite colourful and happening. Just like his unconventional storylines, his love life has also been a roller-coaster ride. The Manmarziya director has always been in the news for his personal life and his alleged linkups. Anurag, who has always managed to garner positive reviews for his cult films is regarded as a humble and down-to-earth man by the women in his life.
Anurag who is reportedly in a live-in relationship with his 24-year-old assistant director, Shubra Shetty has admitted his relationship with her and says that he is in his happy phase. Rumours of the 47-year-old director dating his assistant had started doing rounds in 2015 but a post of Anurag kissing Shubra which appeared on the latter’s social media handle confirmed that the two were very much in love. Anurag Kashyap who has always been in the news either for his controversial Twitter posts or his ugly spats was married twice. Anurag, known for his outspoken nature was earlier married to acclaimed film editor, Aarti Bajaj. They had met in college and dated for nine years before tying the knot. The couple, who got divorced in 2009, has an 18-year daughter named Aaliyah. Aarti, his first wife who began her career with Anurag, has films like Jab We Met, Dev D, Gulaal, Raman Raghav 2.0 and Manmarziya to her credit.
It was reported that constant dips in Anurag’s professional life during the initial phase were the reason for his separation with his first wife. Anurag who was undergoing through an extremely low point used to often lock himself up for days.

After separating from Aarti, Anurag had fallen in love with actress, Kalki Koechlin during the shooting of the movie Dev D. Anurag and Kalki were in a live-in relationship for quite some time and had decided to get married in 2011. In an interview, Kalki had revealed that she had never noticed that Anurag had feelings for her. It was later that she realised that Anurag was making constant visits for her plays.
Anurag was madly in love with Kalki due to which within six months of shooting Dev D, he had asked her out. Impressed by his honesty, Kalki decided to move in with him. But troubles started soon in their paradise. In 2013, the couple had announced that "they are taking time apart from their more than two-year-old marriage." In 2015, Anurag and Kalki announced their divorce.

Anurag and Kalki had refused to comment on the matter for quite a while but after some time, Kalki had opened up about her divorce and had stated that Anurag’s unstable temperaments were the reason behind their split. She had further said,
“The not so good thing is that he is not aware of influences and people pulling him in different directions. He is also a very angry person and can defend himself very well, but he does get swayed.”
Even after the split, Anurag and Kalki continue to remain friends and admire each other a lot. Anurag had once spoken that losing Kalki was the biggest loss of his life. When asked, whether they were in touch, the Gulaal director said,
"Yes, we're in touch. We are still good friends. I'm very happy for her. A lot of people did not give the credit that was due to her. They said she was getting everything because of Anurag. But you can't live your life by what people say. People have no other business except passing comments on others."
Anurag, after his divorce with Kalki Koechlin, was reportedly linked up with his Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 2 actress Huma Qureshi. The Black Friday director had denied the rumours and called them baseless. It was reported that Anurag was quite miffed with the media for spreading the link-up rumours. In an interview with IANS, Anurag had said,
"People run only one-sided story and it's very disturbing. Such rumours are not affecting me or Kalki but it is affecting Huma's image. Huma is being targeted."

Anurag and Huma were photographed while attending a screening together which had given birth to all the speculations about the two being in a relationship. Citing reasons for maintaining distance with the media, the ace director had said that he was very disturbed with the reports of him dating Huma. He had also blamed the media for tarnishing Huma's reputation by publishing false stories. Anurag had also come for the rescue of Huma and had further commented,
"When we went for the screening, photographers wanted to click us together. I said you guys will click our picture purposely and will run your own story and that's exactly what has happened."
In 2014, It was rumoured that Anurag had found love yet again in Bombay Velvet assistant director, Sabrina Khan. The duo had met at a party and started dating each other. The duo had reportedly gone for a vacation to Europe and had spent some days in Paris. Sabrina Khan is quite young to Anurag. Smitten by the young and talented Sabrina, Anurag had said that age never mattered to him. The rumour about the two had started doing rounds when the two were working on the movie Bombay Velvet. The relationship did not last long, and the couple parted ways within a year of dating each other.

There were rumours sometime back that Anurag was dating his assistant director Shubhra Shetty from Phantom productions. Their constant pictures together had given birth to rumour mills about a budding romance. The same was confirmed by Anurag later. The Dev D director had confirmed his relationship with Shubra and had said that he is very much in love and is very positive about his relationship with Shubhra.
Anurag is often seen sharing lovely pictures with his ladylove on his Instagram handle. The couple started dating in the year 2015 and officially confirmed their relationship in the year 2018. Shubhra grabbed the limelight due to her more than 20-year age difference from Anurag. In an interview with Filmfare, the Bombay Velvet director confirmed the news and said,
"I'm in a relationship after a long time. I don't believe it is anybody's business to know,” everyone needs to be in love at some stage or the other. I love the emotion of love. Even at 90, I'll be in love."
Anurag who has always been open about the women in his life had said that he had never attempted to hide his relationships with the media. The couple is quite active on social media and makes sure to share their lovey-dovey moments together. Anurag and Shubhra had started dating each other during the filming of Bombay Velvet and is quite stuck to each other. Talking about the relationship he had said,
“Whenever I have been sure about something, it has been out there. I have always said what I wanted to say. Even when I was breaking up [with Kalki], I was open about it. But speculation destroys a lot of things.”
Shubhra who adores Anurag has never shied away from making their relationship public. She always made sure to profess her love for him. The 25-year-old Shubra is head-over-heels in love with the Sacred Games director and believes that her relationship with Anurag has given her stability. She also said that the ace director, who is an inspiration for the youth has taught her to be grounded.
Anurag, who has never maligned the reputation of the women in his life is known to be a very emotional person. He is regarded as somebody who wears his heart on his sleeves. He was recently seen bantering a number of sad songs composed on self-pity and heartbreak. Talking about the same, he had said,
"India has the most number of songs about self-loathing and self-pitying. Ghungroo ki tarah bajta hi raha hoon main... Devdas... But I'd rather be in love than be heartbroken. We wish all the luck to Anurag for his love life!!
