AR Rahman and Saira Banu's lawyer, Vandana Shah doesn't rule out reconciliation. She also talks about the ex-couple's kids' custody.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu's split has caused a stir on the internet. The couple got married in 1995, and after 29 years of their marital bliss, they called it quits. The reason for their decision was shown as 'pain'. Well, for those who don't know, Saira Banu's lawyer has revealed that the couple's divorce has not been finalised yet. On the other hand, AR Rahman, too, took to his social media profile and announced his separation. Amid this, the lawyer talked about the possibility of reconciliation between AR Rahman and Saira Banu, along with their three kids' custody.
Talking to Vicky Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Vandana Shah was asked about AR Rahman and Saira Banu's kids' custody. To this, Vandana stated that it has not been finalised yet, but a few of their kids are adults, and thus they are free to decide with whom they would want to live. In Vandana Shah's words:
"That’s not decided yet... It is yet to be decided... But some of them are adults, they are free to choose who they stay with”.
In the same interview, Vandana Shah was asked if a huge alimony is attached to Saira and AR Rahman's divorce. To this, she didn't comment but added that Saira isn't a 'money-minded' person, and in her 29 years of marriage with the singer, she has not been in public that much. The lawyer doesn't rule out the reconciliation as well.
She remarked she never stated that reconciliation isn't possible, and rather, she's optimistic and always talks about love. Vandana further remarked that in their separation announcement, it's quite clear that the couple had taken the decision out of pain. Vandana added that it was a long marriage and thus, it was not a rushed decision of the couple, but she never said that the reconciliation isn't possible. In Vandana's words:
"I have not said that reconciliation is not possible. I am an eternal optimist, and I always talk about love and romance. The joint statement is quite clear. It talks about pain and separation. It's a long marriage and a lot of thought has gone into coming to this decision, but nowhere have I said that reconciliation is not possible”.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu used to be a much-loved couple, and thus, after they announced their divorce, it left everyone in utter shock. In a statement released by India Today, their lawyer, Vandana Shah shared that the couple had decided to part ways, and it came from a place of pain. The lawyer revealed that whether there is still love and respect, some difficulties had cropped up between them. As per the statement, the couple doesn't want to bridge the gap between them as of now.
It was on November 28, 2024, when AR Rahman made his first public appearance since announcing his separation from Saira Banu. The singer graced the 55th International Film Festival (IFF) in Goa for the Lata Mangeshkar Memorial Talk: Musical Theatre in India session. In the videos, the singer was seen posing for the shutterbugs and looked visibly sad.
