AR Rahman has been hospitalised in Chennai after he became dehydrated due to fasting in 'Ramzan'. Read below for more details.
Oscar-winning music composer, AR Rahman has been admitted to Chennai's Apollo Hospital on March 16, 2025. The 58-year-old is being attended by a team of doctors at the hospital. According to multiple reports on social media, the Oscar-winning music director started feeling uneasy when he returned back from London. He has been dehydrated due to fasting on the occassion of 'Ramzan' festival.
Now, according to an India Today report and other varied reports, AR Rahman complained of discomfort in his neck area. A member of his team also revealed that, as of now, he was doing fine and that he would be discharged. The report also mentioned that doctors were closely observing him and also did varied tests like ECG and ECHO. Rahman, 5, reportedly was admitted to the hospital at 7.30 am on March 16, 2025. Reportedly, he would also undergo an angiogram. Rahman had undergone a checkup at Apollo Hospital, Chennai, after he complained of feeling uneasy. Rahman reportedly was dehydrated as he was fasting for Ramzan and, for now, has been out of danger.
AR Rahman's spokesperson in an interview with the NDTV revealed that when the music composer returned from his trip back to London, he complained of feeling unwell. The doctors then confirmed that his condition arose as he was dehydrated, which amped due to fasting for Ramzan. AR Rahman's spokesperson said:
"He returned from London yesterday and felt unwell, so he went to the hospital for a check-up last night. However, according to the doctors, it was due to dehydration, as he has also been fasting for Ramzan."
AR Rahman and his ex-wife, Saira Banu, were married for 29 years. It was on March 12, 1995, when the former pair married, and in November 2024, they opted for separation. The couple has been blessed with three kids- AR Ameen, Khatija, and Raheema Rahman. The music composer had broken the news to the world of how shattering it was to bear the entire weight of two broken hearts. In his tweet, Rahman expressed his gratitude to his friends for giving him and respecting his privacy. He had hoped to reach the grand thirty anniversary with Saira but there was no way out. His heartbreaking tweet read:
"We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter."
On the flip side, Saira's lawyer, Vandana Shah, had also shared that after many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira made the difficult decision to separate from her husband, Mr. A R. Rahman. This decision came after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time.
