AR Rahman said that he felt very old just before his marriage to Saira Banu. He also shared how his now estranged wife has made adjustments after their marriage.
AR Rahman has been going through a tough phase in his personal life. The singing maestro has parted ways with his wife, Saira Banu, after 29 years of their marital bliss. It was in 1995 when the estranged couple tied the knot, and they always used to shell out happy-couple goals out there. Well, the reports about the couple's separation have left everyone shocked. Meanwhile, Saira's lawyer has shared that the decision has come from a place of pain. Amid all this going on, old interviews of AR Rahman have been going viral.
In an interview with Simi Garewal, AR Rahman revealed that his mom played the matchmaker between him and his wife, Saira Banu. Talking more about the same, the singer revealed that he told his mom to find him a bride, for which she also used to get frustrated. Well, as per a report by India.Com, AR Rahman, in an interview, had revealed that just ahead of his marriage with Saira Banu back in 1994, he started feeling a bit old, and thus, he decided to get married. He also mentioned that his wife was all shy back then, and after their marriage, she is anything but quiet. In AR Rahman's words:
"In 1994, when I was about twenty-seven, I decided that it was time to get married. For some reason, I started to feel old. She used to be shy, but now she’s anything but quiet”.
For a newly married girl, making adjustments in her family is a common thing, and the same happened with Saira Banu. In an interview with Rahmaniac.com, AR Rahman shared that after marriage, it's difficult for a family to make adjustments with the newcomer. He added that as he had a joint family, a period of adjustment was necessary, and in 1995, when his elder daughter was born, everything was fine after that. In AR Rahman's words:
"You know, it’s always difficult for any family to adjust to anyone new coming into the fold. Like all mothers, my mother was possessive about me, and as we all lived together as a joint family, a period of adjustment was necessary. In 1995, my eldest daughter Khatija was born, and everything was fine after that.”
In an interview with India Today, Saira Banu and AR Rahman's lawyer talked about the duo's abrupt decision to part ways. As per the lawyer, Saira has taken the decision to part ways with AR Rahman. The lawyer mentioned that the decision came after a lot of emotional strain in their relationship. The lawyer revealed that the couple had faced tensions and difficulties between them, and as of now, neither of them feels it right to bridge the gap between them. In the same interview, the lawyer shared that Saira had taken the decision out of pain and agony, and she also requested privacy to get over this tough phase.
Taking to his X (Twitter), AR Rahman shared an emotional note after his split up from Saira Banu. He also created a hashtag of "#arrsairaabreakup", and in her note, he had mentioned that the plan was to enter their 30 years of marital bliss with grandeur but it couldn't happen.
