Archana Puran Singh recently opened up about her struggling days, revealing that she came to Mumbai with a single suitcase. She also admitted to faking an employment letter to stay at the YWCA.
Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi are one of the most loved and adorable couples in the glamour world. The couple, whose love story seems lifted straight out of a Bollywood film, have stuck by each other through thick and thin. Archana and Parmeet faced all odds with a united front, resulting in a blissfully happy marriage of over two decades. Recently, the actress and TV personality released a YouTube video in which she opened up about many aspects of her life, including her struggles while trying to break into the entertainment industry.
Archana Puran Singh took to her YouTube channel with an adorable video of her, her hubby, Parmeet Sethi, and their two sons, Aaryamann Sethi and Ayushmaan Sethi. The family of four sat down to play a game of snakes and ladders together, which was full of fun and revelations. During the same, Archana opened up about her struggling days when she was first trying to break into the entertainment industry.
Archana revealed that she had first come to Mumbai by train with just a single suitcase full of her things. When she first arrived, she had no idea where to go until she came across a Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA). Archana decided to stay there. However, there was a catch — the YWCA wanted a letter of employment, which Archana, given that she had just arrived in Mumbai, didn’t have. Archana said:
"Toh mere ek do dost ban gaye the, koi jaankaar, toh mene ek letter dedi thi — farzi letter thi. Aur mene wo letter dedi aur kaha ki mein working hu."
Archana further revealed that since the YWCA staff expected her to eat breakfast and leave for office, she would leave her hostel in the early hours. She would then use her time to visit agencies and once even got her portfolio made. Hilariously, she added that the photos were so bad that she was still in shock that she got work. Parmeet then joked that she also used to go and sing in trains.
Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi have always been hailed for breaking the age gap stereotype. The couple, who first tied the knot in 1992, share a 7-year age gap, with Archana being the older one. Well, in the hilarious video, Parmeet opened up about his coincidental first meeting with Archana much before they got romantically involved.
Parmeet revealed that when the shooting for Archana’s series, Mr Ya Mrs had actually taken place at his next-door neighbour’s home. Parmeet then burst out laughing, saying:
"Pehli baar mene Mumma ko waha dekha tha jab me chota sa tha."
Archana protested that he wasn’t that small, so Parmeet asked her how old she was while shooting the series. When the actress replied that she was 21, her sons broke into laughter as they pointed out that meant their dad was 14 at that time.
In the video, Parmeet Sethi also opened up about being frustrated with college and having problems at home, which led him to want to start his own business. Parmeet borrowed Rs. 500 from his grandmother and used it to purchase export surplus clothes from his uncle’s factory in Delhi. He then brought the goods to Bombay and started an exhibition in an art gallery, which earned him a profit of Rs. 25,000 back then.
Parmeet was so elated by the success that he started a garment export business. He asked his uncle in London to supply more clothes, but all the orders suddenly got cancelled because of the recession in Europe. Archana further added that Parmeet was so upset by the loss that he called her crying over what happened.
