Arjun Kapoor recalled how he fought with the questions by his friends in school about his 'new mom', Sridevi.
It is impossible for any child to think of someone taking their mother’s place. And actor, Arjun Kapoor had gone through similar emotions when his father, Boney Kapoor, had tied the knot for the second time with superstar, Sridevi. For Arjun, the pain of seeing Sridevi taking his mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor’s place in Boney Kapoor's life was unimaginable. For Mona Kapoor, her wedding with Boney Kapoor had ended after she separated from him because of Sridevi.

After Boney Kapoor’s marriage with Sridevi, Mona did her best to raise their kids, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, by fitting into the roles of both a father and a mother. Arjun and Anshula’s lives were shattered when Mona had breathed her last on March 25, 2012. On February 24, 2018, Sridevi had left for the heavenly abode and it was Arjun and Anshula, who stood like a pillar of strength for their father, Boney and their half-siblings, Janhvi and Khushi.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Arjun Kapoor recalled a school memory of how his friends used to ask him about his ‘new mom’. Talking about the same, Arjun said, “To be asked by kids, your best friends in school 'how does it feel having a new mom?' it's not easy. It makes you go into a shell. You become more vulnerable about things. Again this is not to create sympathy or a sad story. This is the reality...I fought through it.”
For the unversed, it is reported that Sridevi had become friends with Mona Kapoor, the first wife of Boney Kapoor and even used to stay at their house. It was said that Sridevi used to consider Boney as her brother as she had tied him rakhi when she was in an alleged relationship with Mithun Chakraborty.
It was then that the affair between Sridevi and Boney Kapoor had started and she was soon pregnant with Boney’s child. When Mona came to know about it, she was devastated! The news of Sridevi’s pregnancy had spread like wildfire, and she was accused of breaking a happy family. On June 2, 1996, Sridevi and Boney Kapoor had tied the knot in a simple temple wedding.

As Sridevi had reportedly banned Boney Kapoor from meeting his first family, including Mona Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, this had become the major reason that Arjun had never shared a warm relationship with his step-mother. When Arjun Kapoor had visited Karan Johar's chat show, Koffee With Karan, he had talked about his equation with Sridevi and had shared that their relationship can never be normal. He had said, “My relationship with Sridevi would never be normal. She is just my father's wife and nothing beyond that."
