However, his past traumas have immensely impacted how he approaches his romantic relationships today.
Arjun Kapoor recently sat down to have a candid chat with Raj Shamani. During the conversation, he revealed that his mother’s death and his parents’ untimely separation led him to enter a relationship with the mindset that they would not last. Arjun shared that he has been through his fair share of ups and downs in his personal life. During the conversation, Arjun was further asked about his decision to show up for his ex-partner, Malaika, when she most needed support. Arjun shared that his decision stemmed from the time his stepmother and father’s second wife, Sridevi, suddenly passed away in 2018. He elaborated on the same and said:
"When what happened with Dad and Khushi-Janhvi, there was an impulse. In this case, there was also an instinct and impulse. If I’ve formed an emotional bond with somebody, I would always like to believe that I will be there regardless of the good and the bad. If I’m invited for the good, I will be there. And if I’m needed for the bad, I will be there. I’m not somebody who has a lot of friends, I’m not doing this for all and sundry. If that person doesn’t want me there, I’ll maintain a distance, as I have in the past."
Arjun Kapoor, in the same conversation, shared how the media and industry have changed. He revealed that when he made his debut, a lot of things could be kept secret. However, there is a culture that wants to know everything now. He shared about being a private person, and that Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Karan Johar were the ones who forced him to make a social media account. He stated:
"It’s one thing to have gossip, but the moment you confirm things now, there is a culture of wanting to know everything. Nowadays, you can’t just go to a restaurant without being 'spotted'. Everyone has a phone, forget the paps. It cheapens the relationship. It makes sense to be forthright about your partner in a dignified manner. It took me a while to come on social media. Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar forced me to come on social media after 2 States"
Arjun Kapoor shared that actors nowadays don't have a choice of whether they want to go public with their relationships. He added that he isn’t commitment-phobic, but he has a fear of loss because of his past experiences. He revealed how his parent's relationships affected him and stated:
"There is a difference. My mom left me, my father made a choice. So, there’s a fear of loss. There’s a feeling that eventually, everyone will leave."
