Recently, actor, Arjun Kapoor looked back on his school and college days, opening up about the struggles he faced. He also revealed that he had been a good student until his parents split up.
Bollywood actor, Arjun Kapoor recently wowed audiences and critics alike with his portrayal of the antagonist, 'Danger Lanka' in Rohit Shetty's cop universe, Singham Again. The actor, overwhelmed by the reception of his performance, earlier stated the role felt like his 'rebirth' as an actor. Following his debut in Ishaqzaade, Arjun went on to star in a number of films, but his performances were frequently criticized. Recently, the actor reflected on the start of his career as an assistant director on Kal Ho Naa Ho and the different factors in his life that pushed him to give up his college education and enter showbiz.
Arjun Kapoor recently sat for a candid chat with Mashable India, during which he recalled the phase after he completed his 10th standard. While the Gunday star didn't elaborate, it seems he went through some tough times back then as he revealed that he had used films as an escape, fully immersing himself in them during his summer holidays. Arjun can be quoted as saying:
"I think I used cinema to get out of that phase after 10th."
For the unversed, this was also when a young Arjun first stepped into the world of showbiz. The teenager had joined his father, Boney Kapoor on the sets of Kal Ho Naa Ho, donning the hat of an assistant director.
Arjun Kapoor then looked back at his college days, describing how he felt out of place from the moment he set foot on campus. The actor reflected that his discomfort might have come from his insecurities about his weight back then. Arjun said:
"I came to college in shorts, and I realised I was a misfit there. I dressed in my oversized clothes and carried a school bag. I've deleted a lot of memories from those days. I bunked a lot of college. I failed in accounting but did well in other subjects. Maybe subconsciously, I didn't fit in physically because, at that time, I was the most overweight I had ever been."
Arjun Kapoor has always openly admitted that he struggled with academics, and during the conversation with Mashable India, he reflected on the reasons for the same. The actor noted that he had been a 'very good student' until his parents, Boney Kapoor and Mona Shourie Kapoor announced that they were separating. This motivated Arjun to take a break, work for a while, and then return to college.
However, Arjun's late mother, Mona didn't approve of his decision. Revealing that he also had concerns about his decision but decided to push forward anyway, Arjun said:
"I was a very good student until my parents' separation. Then, obviously, psychologically… it affected me. The idea was to take a break and come back to college, but my mother didn't appreciate that I started working. It wasn't that I left college without it bothering me. My father suggested I take a year off and see how I felt. I was privileged enough to make that choice. But I am here today because of that choice."
