Earlier, in an interview with Dawn News, Mumtaz had talked about how she never discriminated between any actor or refused to work with anyone. Revealing the reason for the same, the veteran actress quipped that she faced such discrimination herself. Thus, she knows the same pain, and she doesn't like treating someone like that. In her words:
“I used to think of my time when nobody wanted to work with me and nobody accepted me. So when god made me something then it’s not right for me to do the same thing that I faced to other people. So, I used to think that if I have the ability, I will work with everyone and if the actor is not good, they won’t get work in the future.”
In the same interview, Mumtaz opened up about being labelled a B-grade actress in Hindi cinema. She revealed that she got such a tag because she did a lot of small roles. However, Mumtaz remarked that she trusted the almighty and her good deeds, so that things would definitely come into her favour in some time. She then revealed that after working with Dilip Kumar, she was freed of the tag.

Thus, Mumtaz mentioned that the older actresses used to keep a distance from the young stars at that time. Thus, she revealed that although Waheeda Rehman was a down-to-earth actress, but Vyjayanthimala and a few others didn't talk to her. She added:
“Vo logg toh bohot bade the aur hum toh chote the, they didn’t like mingling with us. There were a few exceptions like Waheeda (Rehman) ji. She used to be very down to earth. Vyjayanthimala also belonged to the same era, but she didn’t talk to me.”
