Asha Bhosle Talks About Holding Concerts And Stage Shows At The Age Of 90, Says, 'If I Will Live...'

Legendary singer, Asha Bhosle opened up about continuing her performances in full-fledged concerts even at the age of 90.

Asha Bhosle is undoubtedly the one of the living legends that our country’s music industry has safeguarded to date. The artist, with more than countless decades of work has enthralled audiophiles over the generations with her soulful melodies and renditions. Asha kickstarted her journey in music at the mere age of 10, and followed the footsteps of her illustrious father, Deenanath Mangeshkar as well as her sister, Lata Mangeshkar. Even today, at the age of 90, Asha hasn’t stepped back from following her passion for the craft and she continues to herald full fledged music concerts and stage shows.

Asha Bhosle reveals why she continues to perform in concerts at the age of 90

Asha Bhosle is all set to perform in a grand concert on March 9, 2024, that would commemorate her 91st birthday. Ahead of that, in an interview with the press, the legendary singer opened up about why she still continues to perform in stage shows and concerts even at the age of 90. She beautifully explained how she doesn’t want her fans to regret on the opportunity of not seeing her once in their life. Moreover, she expressed that she never stopped working towards music, and even if she didn’t perform before the audience, her rehearsals and practices never ceased. Asha said:

“If I will live more, I will go almost everywhere in Maharashtra and do shows. The name of my show is ‘Woh Phir Nahin Aati Hai’. I will also not come again… You should never regret that you haven’t seen that person. People say we did not see Kishore Kumar and other singers. But now you can say we have seen Asha Bhosle. I got the name and fame, people started recognising me. Even though when I am not working, I keep singing. I keep practising. I never left singing, that’s why my voice is okay even today.”

Asha Bhosle claims she practices for herself, adds she is always found on stage

Moving further in the conversation, Asha Bhosle prided over her dedication towards music and claimed that even now, she practices her songs. Even though with so many decades of exposure, anyone would believe that the artist wouldn’t require any practice, but Asha, on the contrary, expressed that she rehearses for herself. Furthermore, she wittily exclaimed how her fans has tolerated her voice for 80 years now, since she has always been found on stage. In Asha’s words:

“I don’t practise for others. I practise for myself because I like it. I sang my first song when I was 10 years old and it’s been 80 years. I want to thank you all, I don’t know how you have tolerated my voice for 80 years? I almost sing 18 songs at this age. I am always on stage.”

Asha Bhosle revealed she felt like she wouldn’t survive after facing difficult times in her life

Previously, Asha Bhosle in an interview with PTI, recalled certain moments of crests in her career, where she felt not being able to survive, after facing difficult times and hardships. She remarked how music has always been the source of breath for her, and it has been the only constant factor in her life which has helped her to come out of the most complex situations, when she herself thought that she couldn’t deal with it.

Asha revealed that she wouldn’t get work if she tried to copy her sister, Lata Mangeshkar’s style

Earlier, in an interview with ETimes, Asha Bhosle narrated that she always strived to remain versatile all throughout her career. Given that she had a super successful sister, Lata Mangeshkar ahead of her, who comparatively shared the same time of work like her, Asha especially never wanted to be like the former. Talking about it, she said:

“I wanted to be different from Lata didi. Nobody would have given me work if I had sung like her. I realised this at the very beginning of my career, and that’s why I kept experimenting with the kind of songs I sang and even my voice. My voice was obviously different from hers, but I made it sharper. She sang softly, so I knew it wouldn’t work if I did the same.”
