Asha Parekh Reveals Lack Of Amenities, Recalls Shooting The Entire Day Without Going To The Bathroom

At a recent event, veteran actress, Asha Parekh talked about the lack of basic sanitation during the shoots in their times.

The ever-gorgeous Asha Parekh was not just the highest-paid actress of Hindi cinema during the 60s and 70s, but also the first woman who was appointed as the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification. Asha, who made her acting debut at the age of 10, is known for her women-centric films. With brilliant performances in movies like Kati Patang, Teesri Manzil, Love in TokyoAan Milo SajnaDil Deke Dekho, Asha's stardom was second to none.

Not just films, her innumerable dance ballets on stage earned her a lot of acclaim in India and overseas. Just like her professional life, Asha’s personal life too gained a lot of attention. Unlike her contemporaries, Asha chose to remain unmarried and enjoy her singlehood.

During a recent event at the 53rd edition of the Film Festival of India, Asha Parekh talked about the struggles of yesteryear actresses’ due to a lack of basic amenities. Recalling how she would spend the entire day without going to the bathroom, Asha stated:

“It would have been great to see the same technical superiority in our era that we have now. For example, I remember there was no concept of facilities like vanity vans during our time. Back then when we went for shoots, the studios didn’t have bathrooms and we used to sit there the entire day without going to the bathroom. Thankfully, I didn’t have any kidney-related problems. Sometimes we even changed our clothes behind bushes.”

Asha Parekh remained unmarried throughout her life, and she once claimed that it was her reputation of being unapproachable because of which people were hesitant to ask her for marriage. Over the years, she has never shied away from addressing her love for her director, mentor and producer, Nasir Hussain and her decision to stay single throughout life.

In her autobiography, The Hit Girl, Asha revealed her love for her director, mentor and producer – Nasir Hussain. Revealing that she never wanted to be a home-breaker, which is why she had never married Nasir, Asha had stated:

“I was never a home-breaker. There was never any ill will between me and Nasir Saab’s family. In fact, I was so happy to see Nusrat (Hussain’s daughter) and Imran Khan (grandson) at my book launch. I feel I’ve lived my life decently, and without hurting anyone.”
