Attire Trends For Indian Grooms

In India, wedding is an elaborate affair with decorations and lavishness all around. So quite evidently, the groom and bride becomes the centre of all attraction in weddings. Hence, they take extra care while shopping for their wedding dresses and accessories. Here is a list of few clothing that can form some perfect attire options for grooms.

Achkan:  Achkan has a royal history behind it. Kings and princes of ancient India used to wear it at various occasions. It was not until 18th century that Achkans became a wedding outfit. It is a long coat or a jacket with full sleeves. It has buttons in the front giving an up- tightly elegant look. It is the most commonly wore wedding outfit. Generally, tightly fit trousers are preferred to go with achkans. They mostly have creases around the ankles.

Sherwani: By the look of it, Sherwanis appear quite similar to achkans but there do exist a difference.Sherwanis are generally made of heavier suiting fabrics and have linings beneath the main clothing.This is another of most commonly wore wedding dresses for Indian grooms. Sherwani is worn over a kurta and is generally linked at the centre. Couple it up with a salwar, and it becomes the most regal attire for a groom. Sherwanis generally are heavily embroidered with silk or golden threads giving it a royal appearance. No wonder it has found many takers among the Indian grooms.

Kurta pyajama: It is the most traditional of all attires in an Indian wedding. Kurta pajamas are also the most comfortable wedding wear for grooms. It is a combination of two garments; a kurta and a pajama. The Kurtas are generally made of light fabrics like cotton or silk which keep you relaxed all through. They are variously designed with gold and silver thread, zari work, senguin work and others.

Jodhpuri suits:  If a groom desires to mix and match traditional Indian wear with western sensibilities attached to it, Jodhpuri suit is the answer. The best thing about Jodhpuri suits it can be easily custom-made to suit the needs of the groom. It is more like a coat open in the front and with a Nehru or open collar. You can wear a shirt underneath it. In today’s time, Jodhpuri suits are finding prominence at weddings due to its agility in being molded according to groom’s desire.

Western Suits: Though the western influence on Indian weddings is not that pronounced, yet you will find grooms preferring western suits to regular traditional wear. Suits are typically black in color and are aptly accessorized with cufflinks, tiepins or brooches.
