Ayesha Jhulka has been one of the most celebrated actresses of the 90s decade of Bollywood. She has been a part of some of the most memorable and iconic films to date, such as Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander, Khiladi, Masoom, Kurbaan among others. Moreover, she has also worked in many regional films apart from the Hindi film industry. Sadly, after winning countless accolades and gaining the stature of a superstar actress of her generation, she suddenly decided to step down from the world of glamour after tying the knot with her husband, Sameer Vashi in 2003. Interestingly after long years of her sabbatical, she made her comeback in 2022 with the web series, Hush Hush.

Ayesha Jhulka recalled getting engaged in catfights with Mamta Kulkarni and late Divya Bharti

In one of her interviews with Bollywood Bubble, Ayesha Jhulka revealed how back in her acting career, she would often engage in frequent cat fights with two of her biggest contemporaries, Mamta Kulkarni and Divya Bharti as a result of obvious jealousy and feelings of insecurities. Nevertheless, she also mentioned how at the end of the day, they would come back with one another, and in fact, shared some really good friendships together. In her words:

“If I would work with Mamta (Kulkarni), or Divya Bharti or anyone, we were just two of us. Two women with two co-actors, and we would have really good equations. Of course, little bit here and there… I think when we are younger and we have those insecurities. Of course, there were. Jealousy happens. Now it depends that my jealousy, if at all it was there, has now converted into envy. And I feel that sometimes this kind of thing is healthy also.”

Going further in the same interview, Ayesha also highlighted how back in the day, even if she encountered a small argument with any of her contemporary colleagues, the very next day, she would notice how it would be blown out of proportions purposely so as to make it big in the headlines. Moreover, she also mentioned how such small issues of envy did not matter in the end. She mentioned:

“Thoda boht bhi if there’s anything, like even if you ask ‘what is she wearing ?’ it will be created as if ‘oh my god’. It was actually blown out of proportion. Let me tell you, hota hoga, hua bhi hai. I do not deny that everything is absolutely (good). These catfights or any kind of jealousy doesn’t matter. It just makes you weaker.”

When Ayesha Jhulka expressed her inhibitions to age on-screen

In one of her earlier interviews with The Indian Express, Ayesha Jhulka revealed how it took her so much time to make a comeback to the silver screen once again. She mentioned how she did not want to age on-screen and revealed how on most occasions, she was offered motherly roles to portray. Moreover, she also spilt beans on how she was frequently asked to play the role of mother to actors like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar, with whom she had previously been paired as the leading duo. She had mentioned:

“I don’t know (but) I’d feel very awkward if I worked opposite Salman Khan or any of my co-actors and suddenly I’ve to play their bhabhi or mother. I don’t know, I just mentally… So I’d rather not do it. But if there is a character which is strong, convincing and author backed, I would obviously do it. Then I wouldn’t think about it. So, it is a beautiful change and I am looking forward to doing much better roles.”
