Babil Khan spoke up about constantly being compared with the legacy of his father, Irrfan Khan and added that he believes in earning a film himself amidst constant nepotism debate.
Babil Khan is one of the new generation actors who has been flourishing professionally. Son of eminent actor, late Irrfan Khan, Babil has gained a lot of popularity in the film industry. He made his debut with the film, Qala in 2021. His latest release, Friday Night Plan has been grabbing a lot of attention. After his father’s demise, Babil has already started to mesmerise everyone with his exceptional acting talents. Amidst it, Babil spoke about the constant comparisons people make between him and his father.
In a recent interview with Filmgyan, Babil Khan shared his take on the constant debate of nepotism in Bollywood, and shared that he prefers to consider himself lying in the grey area of this conflicting topic. Moreover, he added that he does not consider himself to be a star kid, but the son of Irrfan Khan, and mentioned that he feels the need to earn his role in films. In his words:
“Main star kid nahi hoon Irrfan ka beta hoon. I have to earn the role and after earning, I have to deliver it as well.”

Well, it is frequently rumoured that star kids in the film industry have an edge over the other actors from humble backgrounds, especially in terms of the privileges they get and easier access to contacts. Speaking along the same lines, Babil mentioned that in his case, his privileges as the son of Irrfan Khan are different. Sharing how he can easily ask Pankaj Tripathi to help him with voice training, Babil mentioned:
“Being Irrfan’s son, privilege is different. I can walk up to his friends so I get to learn a lot. That is my biggest privilege. I can call Pankaj Tripathi sir and say that I need voice training.”
In the concluding segment of the interview, Babil Khan reacted to the frequent comparisons audiences tend to make between him and his father, late Irrfan Khan. He added that he never wishes to mimic or replicate his father’s acting style. Sharing his quirky insight about it, Babil mentioned that if he has to step into his father’s shoes, then when will he step inside his own shoes? Babil stated:
“Mere bhi to joote hain bhai to main unme kab paon daalunga agar unke joote pehenne lagunga to?”

In one of his previous interviews with Film Companion, Babil Khan spoke about his ardent desire for his father, late Irrfan Khan to have been able to see his achievements this far. He shared that he missed his father and his smile, and always wanted to make him proud.
