Bappa Lahiri On Why He Immersed Father, Bappi Lahiri's Ashes In Kolkata, Calls Him 'Son Of Bengal'

Late legendary music composer and singer, Bappi Lahiri's ashes were immersed in Kolkata by his family members. Now, in a recent interview, his son, Bappa Lahiri, revealed the reason behind it.

It was on the morning of February 16, 2022, when the entire nation had woken up to the devastating news of 'Disco King', Bappi Lahiri's untimely demise. The iconic singer and music composer, who was famous for his unique style and music, had breathed his last at the CritiCare Hospital in Mumbai. According to multiple reports, it was reported that Bappi Lahiri was hospitalised for a month due to multiple health issues and was discharged on February 14, 2022.

However, his health had deteriorated on February 15, 2022, and on February 16, 2022, Bappi Lahiri had passed away, leaving behind an unmatchable legacy. Now, in a recent interview, his son, Bappa Lahiri revealed that he and his family members had fulfilled his father's last wish.

In an interview with India Today, Bappa Lahiri opened up about his late father, Bappi Lahiri and revealed that he and his family members had immersed the ashes of his daddy in the Ganges, Kolkata. When Bappa was asked whether there was any specific reason behind this decision, the doting son revealed that it has a connection with his late grandparents. Bappa revealed that the ashes of his grandparents were also immersed in Kolkata. Hence, it was also his father, Bappi Lahiri's wish. Bappa also called his late father 'The Son of Bengal' and said:

"My grandparent's last rites were also done here. He was the son of Bengal. We are proud to be Bengali. We are organising his last rites here with the love of you all. Many people have come here to receive us. It was my first visit here without my father's presence in reality."

In an interview with The Times Of India, Bappa Lahiri had quashed all the medical reports and had said that his late father, Bappi Lahiri, had died of a heart attack. Bappa had also mentioned that his father had spent the entire January in hospital but wished to return home. He was discharged from the hospital on February 15, 2022. But once back, he had stopped eating and wasn't feeling well. He had said:

"No, it wasn't a breathing issue. I think his heart just stopped. My sister, brother-in-law and mother rushed him to the hospital. The doctor had been called and he said that he needs to be taken to the hospital. They reached the hospital but he couldn't be revived. I was on the phone all the time."

Further in the conversation, Bappa Lahiri had also shared that his late father, Bappi Lahiri, used to sing songs while lying on the hospital bed. Praising his father's spirit, he had also added that his dad had enjoyed the music despite being in pain. Talking about the same, he had said:

"Oh, yes. And he used to tap at the table near his bed as the songs rolled along. One day, he started singing loudly in the hospital. Mom said 'kya kar rahe ho?'"
