Barun Sobti first swept audiences off their feet as the dapper ‘Arnav Singh Raizada’ in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. However, off late, he has been garnering attention for his standout performances in OTT projects like Asur and Kohrra. What may come as a shock for many, though, is realising that in his 15-year long career as an actor, Barun Sobti has never had an on-screen kiss.

Barun Sobti’s no-kiss clause is connected to a promise he made to his wife, Pashmeen Manchanda

Barun Sobti is no stranger to risque scenes having engaged in full nudity for the short film, Derma, and on-screen intimacy for Kohrra. However, Barun spilt the beans on why kissing is a strict no-no for him. His then-girlfriend, now-wife, Pashmeen Manchanda seems to be the reason.

Recalling a conversation from when they were still dating, Barun said that Pashmeen had asked him if being an actor meant he would go around kissing everyone. Barun then sweetly promised her that he would never do an on-screen kiss, and it is that one promise, he has kept.

Barun Sobti opens up about having kiss sequences cut from his projects

In conversation with News 18 Showsha, Barun Sobti revealed that he had been blessed with projects where the team really wanted him. Elaborating on how he rarely had to reject work, he said:

“I haven’t kissed anyone on-screen. However, I’ve rarely had to reject work because of that. I’ve been very, very lucky as the people who wanted to cast me really wanted me, and they were okay with removing the kissing scenes from the script. Maybe they saw my skill set and thought that a kiss wasn’t a very relevant part of the story. If I’ve rejected something, it was mostly because I thought the script wasn’t very good.”

Barun Sobti decided to pass on films where he felt the kissing scenes were crucial

Barun also candidly shared that every now and then projects would come his way, where the kissing scenes felt vital to the story. In those situations, he has always felt that the mature thing to do is politely pass on the script rather than ask for a change. He told News18:

“Sometimes, the sexual dynamic between two characters is very important to the script. In such instances, there’s no point in requesting them to cut out the kissing. So, at those times, I’ve told them that I’m not available. I only give such scripts a chance when I know we can do without a kissing scene. And whenever I’ve asked if we could remove such scenes, they’ve agreed because they weren’t integral to the story.”

Barun Sobti and Pashmeen Manchanda’s love story from school friends to life partners

For the unversed, Barun and Pashmeen have a love story that seems like a plot for a romance novel. The beloved couple first met when they were only in the 9th standard and formed an unbreakable friendship. However, they first realised that their feelings ran deeper when they were separated during their college years.

After maintaining a long distance relationship for five years, the couple finally got hitched in 2010. They now share two adorable children together, a daughter named, Sifat and a son named, Meer.
