#1. Hair shine

Silky, smooth and shiny lustrous locks are dream for every girl, which is why they don’t shy away from getting keratin treatment again and again for their hair. It is fine if you get it done once in a while, but regular use of it can have a few side effects. According to a research, formaldehyde contained in products used for such treatments can have adverse effects on your eyes, respiratory and nervous system. It may even lead to cancer. In short, inhaling formaldehyde fumes is unhealthy so think twice before getting this type treatment on regular basis.

#2. Manicures and pedicures

Next time when you get the manicure and pedicure done, do pay attention to the hygiene factor of the salon as well as of the cleaning tools. Dirty tub, unsanitised nail files, cuticle cutter and clippers can cause various bacterial, viral and fungal infections. Avoid gel manicures too since they can expose you to dangerous UV light, and can also damage nail cuticles and weaken the nail bed. Even nail buffing, which you get done for shiny nails can make them brittle because every time you for this treatment, you are basically stripping away a layer of your nail making it weaker.

#3. Exfoliation

Scrubbing/exfoliation is the best way to remove dead cells from the skin, but only when done at regular intervals. By exfoliating every other day, you are not allowing the skin to regenerate. You are in fact damaging your skin by removing too much skin prematurely. Also, over-exfoliation can cause inflammation in the skin and weaken the barrier function, making it vulnerable to infection.

#4. Fish pedicures

Many people find fish pedicures an enjoyable experience, but fish pedicures can cause serious health issues. According to research, if the water of fish tank is not changed and sanitised after every use, it can lead to various infections. But the bigger problem is the fish. Since fish can't be sanitised like nail clippers and files, there are chances that various skin infections, hepatitis and AIDS can spread through them as same fish are used for every customer. So, be careful about the place from where you are planning to have tiny fish nibble the dead skin cells of your toes. If you have any wound or cut on your leg do not get fish pedicure done.
