Prime Minister, Narendra Modi urged Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders to avoid making unnecessary statements regarding movies since this puts the party's development agenda on hold.
In the wake of the Pathaan controversy, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi urged party members to refrain from making pointless remarks about movies since they would overshadow the party's development program. He made this remark during the Bharatiya Janata Party national executive meeting held in Delhi on January 16 and 17, 2023.
PM Modi reportedly remarked how specific party members' statements on some movies are continuously broadcasted on television and in the media. The prime minister advised the party members to refrain from making unnecessary statements, which may hinder the party's growth. Prime Minister Modi made these statements in response to calls for a boycott of the film, Pathaan which stars Deepika Padukone, John Abraham and Shah Rukh Khan.

The Pathaan issue has gotten a lot of media attention. The controversy centres around one of the film's songs, Besharam Rang, in which politicians and religious figures debated whether Deepika Padukone's orange bikini insulted Hindu sensibilities. There's been a significant campaign to boycott the movie.
A leader of the Maharashtra BJP, Ram Kadam, questioned the movie's creators, asking them if their choice to make the film was motivated by a desire for "cheap attention" or some other plot. He also stated that films that mock 'Hindutva' won't be accepted. Additionally, he was spotted backing the stance of some Hindu organisation's position who are actively protesting against the film.
Padukone's attire in the Pathaan's song, as well as the colour of Padukone and lead actor Shah Rukh Khan's clothing, had also drawn criticism from Madhya Pradesh Home Minister, Narottam Mishra, who called for its rectification. He forewarned that the problematic portions must be removed, or the film ban might be worthwhile to consider.
