Bobby Deol Talks About His Life's Darkest Phase, Says, 'My Kids Kept Asking When I'll Go To Work?'

The son of Bollywood's legendary actor, Dharmendra, brother of incredible actor, Sunny Deol, it was a huge task for Bobby Deol to touch the standards set-up by his father and brother. While the beginning of his career was quite sensational as he had entered into the industry as a romantic hero in films like Barsaat, Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya, Kareeb to the intense roles in Gupt: The Hidden Truth, Bichhoo and had also shown glimpses of his comedy skills in Chor Machaaye Shor, Bobby had proved his mettle as an actor at every step of his career. However, there was a time in his career when the actor wasn't be able to cope up with the changes in Indian cinema and had started getting replaced by the newcomers. That was the darkest time of his professional life, and it had also started affecting his personal life too. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Ashram actor, Bobby Deol talked about one of the darkest phases of his life and how his kids' had started asking questions from his wife, Tanya Deol about him not going out for work. He revealed, "While I was doing these films, I got into alcohol which is the worst thing you can do to yourself. My family looked at me with such sadness in their eyes. They were all worried and felt when Bobby would come out of it? My kids kept asking my wife, "Why doesn't papa go out to work?" And that suddenly snapped me out of it." Going further in his interview, Bobby Deol also recalled the time when he had started thinking that his acting career is not going to revive again and it's the end as he was getting replaced by newcomers. He said, "When I started, there was no PR, and it was all just kicking in slowly. I didn't have a clue about it, and soon enough, despite giving hit films, I saw that I was being replaced with other new faces. People started saying that Bobby is enjoying, he's had his success and doesn't need to work. Or he is lazy."

Class of '83 actor also revealed that all the scripts that he had received in that phase were not convincing at all and that was the reason why he had started getting worried about the end of his career. He revealed, "Yes, I wasn't getting work, so I thought my career has ended, how will I be an earning member of my family. So it is important to have that fear. I was getting offers, and they were not great films. I chose a certain kind of films. They didn't do well, and they kept pushing me backwards in my career. I just gave up one day."

At the end of his interview, Bobby revealed that it was Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan's advice that had changed his life. The actor revealed, "Then, I started meeting producers, but they couldn't see the hunger in me. It was then that Salman (Khan) who I lovingly call mamu had given a piece of advice. He said I climbed on your brother (Sunny) and Sanjay Dutt's shoulders during my bad phase. It would help if you also do films with another actor. So, I took it seriously and told me to let me climb on yours, then." Well, we are glad that Bobby kept on going and didn't give up.
